Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Loki
Answer: Victim
Loki was one of the first major characters from the previous films to die. He was killed directly by Thanos in the opening scenes of the movie.
This was significant because in the first "Avengers" movie Loki was the villain, bringing with him an alien army. At the end of that film it was revealed that he was working for Thanos.
Thanos choosing to kill Loki shows that the character had been redeemed.
2. Thor
Answer: Alive
He survived both being hit by the full force of a dying star, and Thanos' mass culling. He was played by Chris Hemsworth. He actually comes out of the movie with a new weapon to replace his hammer that was destroyed in "Thor: Ragnarok" and a new eye to replace his damaged visual receptor.
Thor was first introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his own self-titled film. In addition to his own trilogy and the "Avengers" movies, he has appeared or been mentioned in two "Captain America" movies, and in the "Iron Man", "Doctor Strange" and "Spider-Man" movies.
3. Steve Rogers
Answer: Alive
He was never referred to as "Captain America" during the film, and only once as "Captain" when he first saw Vision. He was played by Chris Evans.
The character has appeared in, or been mentioned in his own trilogy of films, the "Avengers" films, "Iron Man 3", "Thor: The Dark World", "Ant-Man" and "Spider-Man: Homecoming".
4. Groot
Answer: Victim
Groot was voiced by Vin Diesel. The motion capture for him was done by Krystian Godlewski, James Gunn (Baby Groot), Sean Gunn (adolescent Groot) and Terry Notary, over the course of the first three movies he was featured in.
The character, who was already killed off once in the first "Guardian's of the Galaxy" movie, once again died in this film. He faded away to nothing as his best friend Rocket watched in horror.
He is well known for saying only "I am Groot" and once "We are Groot" throughout the movies.
5. Spider-Man
Answer: Victim
Spider-Man, thanks to his spider sense, feels death coming. Thanks to his healing factor he hangs on just a bit longer than most, and has time to tell Iron Man that he doesn't want to die.
He was played by Tom Holland.
The character's film rights were sold to Sony more than a decade before the movie was made. Despite Spider-Man being a Marvel character, it took a lot of negotiating for Sony to agree to let Marvel use the character in their cinematic universe.
6. Dr. Strange
Answer: Victim
Dr. Stephen Strange was played by Benedict Cumberbatch.
He's new to the "Avengers" and has only had one solo movie. He played a key role in the events of this film though, holding the time stone that Thanos needed, and as a powerful fighter on his own.
He agreed to give Thanos the stone in order to spare Tony Stark, then he died in the mass killing later. Strange had looked into the future and knew there was only one way the team would win, Stark apparently being a key reason.
7. Black Widow
Answer: Alive
Black Widow, or Natasha Romanoff, was played by Scarlett Johansson.
She's been in several movies starting with "Iron Man 2". She played a key role in killing many of Thanos' allies.
The character has been in numerous Marvel movies, either by name or appearing onscreen.
This was the first movie where she appeared as a blonde. While not directly stated, she likely changed her hair color because she was on the run with Steve Rogers and technically a fugitive from the U.S. government.
8. Iron Man
Answer: Alive
Played by Robert Downey Jr., he is the basis that the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe has been built on.
It was the first film with Iron Man that spawned the rest of the franchise.
Many speculated that he would die in the movie, but thanks to Dr. Strange, Thanos allowed him to live. Tony had already lost the fight and Thanos was about to end his life, when Strange stepped in to cut a deal with him.
9. Scarlet Witch
Answer: Victim
Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch was played by Elizabeth Olsen.
She's a powerful member of the team, despite at one time being on the villainous side of things. She has the powers of hypnosis and telekinesis.
This was the character's second "Avengers" movie; she also appeared in two of the "Captain America" movies.
Her twin brother Pietro Maximoff was killed in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" after the pair were both trying to redeem themselves. At first they had sided with Ultron, before eventually switching to the heroes' side of the fight.
10. Black Panther
Answer: Victim
Despite starring in his own solo movie that was still in U.S. theaters when this movie released, Chadwick Bozeman's Black Panther was among the casualties of Thanos' finger snap.
Black Panther is the king of Wakanda. At the end of his own movie he decided to force Wakanda into joining the rest of the world, and revealed their technological superiority. In this movie, just a few months later, the country was part of the crux of a battle for the fate of the universe.
