Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Steven is a doctor in which field?

Answer: Cardiothoracic surgery

Steven is a well-respected doctor at a city hospital specializing in open-heart surgery. He, his wife, and his two children live in a beautiful house and, despite living a fairly mundane home life, seem to live well-off. That being said, Steven also seems to be meeting with a teenage boy named Martin on a semi-regular basis.

The two meet at a local restaurant every once in a while and Steven even goes out of his way to give him an expensive, new watch. Eventually, Steven considers it a good idea for Martin to come by to meet the family over dinner.
2. Steven knew Martin's father before he passed away because he was a patient of his. How did Martin's father pass away?

Answer: Car crash

Steven seems to be obliged to help Martin out because of the circumstances that befell his father who, a couple of years earlier, died in a car crash. This does, of course, lead to dinner with Steven's family and a small romance between Martin and Steven's daughter, Kim.

The next day, however, Steven feels obligated to go to dinner at Martin's house and, while there, an awkward sexual advance is made towards him by Martin's mother who, as it would seem, does not really care about Steven's sixteen-years-long marriage to his wife.
3. What are the gifts Martin purchases for Steven's kids?

Answer: Keychains

At dinner, Martin brings Steven's wife, Anna, a bouquet of roses and his daughter and son, Kim and Bob, a keychain each; Kim receives a music note on the end of hers. What follows is a burgeoning friendship between Kim and Martin, but things don't seem to cool off between Martin and Steven in the meantime.

In fact, Stephen is told that Martin has been lurking around his car at the hospital, and one day, Martin comes in complaining about heart pains and demanding to go through the tests under Steven's supervision.

When Steven refuses to come to another dinner and begins ignoring Martin's calls, things only escalate further.
4. Martin blames Steven for his father's death.

Answer: True

The issues only increase, but not in an expected way. As Martin continues to be rebuffed by Steven, Bob falls ill and needs to be rushed to the hospital. The doctors give him the all clear to leave, but the symptoms swell once more before he can even exit the building. Further tests don't give any fruitful results, so the assumption is made that his illness is psychosomatic. Martin visits on Bob's second day in the hospital and insists on a short conversation with Steven in the cafeteria where, quickly, he says he blames Steven for his father's death and warns that his family is now cursed. If he does not redress the balance by killing one of his own family members, they'll all die. And it's already begun.
5. What is the first phase of Martin's curse?

Answer: Paralysis of the legs

The concern with Bob emerges when he wakes up at home and can't actually pull himself out of bed because his legs are numb. This, of course, prompts the tests at the hospital which don't seem to have any solution. When Martin notes that it's the first phase of the curse placed upon Steven's family, Steven makes a number of attempts to force Bob to walk, even going so far as to pull him from his wheelchair and drop him until he gets up.
Kim is the next to receive this part of the curse; her legs go numb while she's at choir practice.
6. The second phase of Martin's curse forces Steven's family to lose which of these?

Answer: Their appetite

By his second day in the hospital, Bob already lacks an appetite for food, even though his mother brings in one of his favourite treats: cinnamon doughnuts. Steven, coming out of his talk with Martin, goes so far as to attempt to force the doughnuts into his son's mouth to get him to eat them (to no avail).
Kim tries to eat while she's in the hospital, but has serious trouble getting any of it down. In fact, she coughs it back up when she so much as tries.
7. It's revealed that Steven used to be addicted to which of these?

Answer: Alcohol

As things get worse for his family, Steven heads to Martin's house to threaten him and his mother. He has to come clean with Anna too, and he reveals he'd been seeing Martin for six months because he felt sorry for him. She asks if he was drinking during the fateful surgery, and he admits he did before, but only a bit. Anna later finds out, from another source, that Steven had more than one drink before the operation.
One day, at the hospital, Kim receives a phone call from Martin and she's asked to wave to him from the window. She's able to get up and do so, but only during the call. She's confined back to bed immediately after. Anna tells her never to talk to him again and Kim warns her that soon, she'll be confined to bed too.
Anna visits Martin's home to speak to him and he lies to her about Steven and his mother's flirting. She asks why she and the kids need to pay the price for her husband's negligence, but Martin considers it to be at least close to justice for what happened.
8. Steven ends up kidnapping Martin. Where does he keep him during this time?

Answer: In the basement

Anna has Kim and Bob released from the hospital and set up in their home. Both Anna and Steven agree it needed to happen for their children's sake, but the two of them end up arguing over the whole situation as it is. If there is something supernatural going on, as they consider, then they need to do something before they're all dead, no matter how crazy it all is.
Shortly after the children are returned home, Steven decides to do something rash. Anna wakes up the next morning and follows him into the basement to find Martin, bruised and beaten and tied to a chair in their games room.
Steven nearly shoots Martin then and there, but Anna calms him down. As Martin says, "what if?" What if he still has to dig four graves instead of just one?
Upstairs, Kim and Bob get under each others' skin, both believing that the other will die.
9. What is the final stage of the curse, preceding death?

Answer: Bleeding from the eyes

Steven continues to try to choose one child over the other since he and Anna both realize that the only real solution is killing either Kim or Bob to redress the balance and end the curse. Kim tries to convince Martin to let her walk again so that they can be in love together, but Martin holds true to his word and has her remain cursed. Realizing there's nothing they can do, Anna ultimately decides to let Martin go free.
After this happens, Bob experiences the final phase of the curse, bleeding from his eyes. The only step remaining in the curse is death. Time is almost up.
10. Which family member dies to end the curse?

Answer: Bob

When the final symptom manifests in his son, Steven gathers the family in the living room. He binds Anna, Kim, and Bob in duct tape and sits them in different parts of the room before placing pillowcases over their heads. Then, standing in the middle of all of them, he covers his face with a thick hat, spins around blindly several times, and fires a gun. On his third shot, he hits Bob directly in the chest, striking him in the heart and killing him.

Steven, Anna, and Kim run into Martin only once more. All three of them end up at the restaurant where Martin and Steven used to eat together. The curse seems to be lifted from the three of them. They leave in silence.
