Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The role of Countess in 'Il Muto' called for what characteristics?

Answer: Charm and appeal

The Phantom wrote a note to Mme Giry to give to the managers. He instructed that the role of Countess was to be given to Christine as the role called for 'charm and appeal'. Carlotta was to be given the role of the pageboy as that role was silent, as the Phantom hated her singing.
2. Fill in the blank: 'Why you spray on my ____ all the time?'

Answer: Chin

The Phantom said 'Did I not instruct that box 5 was to be kept empty?' which caused a disruption during 'Il Muto'. Carlotta regained her composure and went offstage to moisturize her mouth, her assistant kept missing her mouth and this was when Carlotta said this.
3. At the end we heard the Phantom, Christine and Raoul singing different melodies at the same time. Which melody was not being sung?

Answer: Think of Me

The scene was when the Phantom had Raoul in his noose, and Christine had to decide whether to let Raoul live but marry the Phantom, or whether to let Raoul die and be freed. Raoul was pleading with Christine to let him die so she would be free, and was singing the melody of 'All I Ask of You'.

The Phantom was giving Christine the choices that she had, and was singing the melody of 'Past of the Point of No Return' and Christine was singing to the Phantom to not make her choose and she was singing to the melody of 'Angel of Music'.
4. What nationality was Christine's father?

Answer: Swedish

When Mme Giry was leading the two new managers around the ballet, they started to enquire about the ballerinas. They asked about Meg first, and then Christine. Mme Giry told them who she was. Andre then asked if she was any relation to the Swedish violinist, to which she replied, 'His only child.'
5. According to the Phantom, the new managers' place was in the office, not the where?

Answer: Arts

During the song 'Why So Silent', the Phantom told the managers that he had written an opera. The Phantom wanted the opera to be performed perfectly, so laid out some instructions first. His instruction to the managers was that they both belonged in an office, and not producing operas in his opera house.

The Phantom said this to the two managers because they didn't follow his orders as how the opera house was to be run.
6. When 'Prima Donna' was being sung, what colour bowtie was Firmin wearing?

Answer: Gold

'Prima Donna' was the song that Andre and Firmin sang to Carlotta to persuade her to perform. They began to give her gifts to tempt her. Some gifts she accepted, but most of the them were rejected. However a gold necklace and a black dog won her over.
7. Mme Giry's hair was very noticeable, why was this?

Answer: It was very long.

We saw Mme Giry's long hair throughout the film, although sometimes she had it rolled up in a bun. The length of her hair was seen when she bent down to pick up the first note from the Phantom, and then as she was reading out the same note to the managers.
8. When Raoul was trapped and underwater, which way did he have to turn the wheel?

Answer: Clockwise

The Phantom had set a trap, which was a trap door in the floor; Raoul fell down the hole and into water. A gate was then lowered down over Raoul to drown him. He then found a wheel which, when he turned it clockwise, reversed the gate to raise it up above the water.
9. How did Buquet describe the Phantom's skin in the song 'Magical Lasso'?

Answer: Yellow Parchment

'Like yellow parchment is his skin...' was the sentence in Buquet's song. Mme Giry was angry with Buquet because she didn't like anyone making a mockery of the Phantom's appearance, as he was known as the 'Devil's Child' during his childhood.
10. What creature did Carlotta call Christine?

Answer: Toad

This was during the performance of 'Il Muto', after the Phantom called out 'Did I not instruct that box five was to be kept empty?' This caused many disruptions. Meg said 'It's the Phantom of the Opera.' followed by Christine saying, 'It's him.' Carlotta heard Christine speak and said to her, 'Your part is silent, little toad.'
