Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who starred as Jack Ryan in this film?

Answer: Ben Affleck

There was great surprise in the film world when Ben Affleck was given this role, as he was much younger, in a film set in 2002, than Alec Baldwin when he played Ryan in "The Hunt for Red October",set in 1984, and than Harrison Ford when he played Ryan in its two sequels "Patriot Games" and "Clear And Present Danger". (Harrison Ford was offered this film as well, but declined).
2. Who directed "The Sum Of All Fears"?

Answer: Phil Alden Robinson

Philip Noyce directed both Jack Ryan films starring Harrison Ford, and was also involved in the early development stages of this one, but he and Ford could not agree over script problems, so both fell by the wayside. Phil Robinson's major directing successes before this were "Field of Dreams" and "Sneakers".
3. In which US city is a nuclear bomb detonated at a football stadium?

Answer: Baltimore

Having seen the terrorists deliver the bomb by sea to Baltimore, the plot thickens when the President of the USA, accompanied by the head of the CIA, attends a football game in the city and is rushed away from the stadium just before the blast. Filming of the football stadium actually took place in Montreal's Olympic stadium, and the teams on the field were represented by the Toronto Argonauts and the Montreal Alouettes.

Nemerov, virtually unknown in the west, came suddenly to power when President Zorkin died.
6. Which actor played William Cabot, director of the CIA?

Answer: Morgan Freeman

Cabot was the lynch-pin in the negotiations and manoeuvres to attempt to get the Soviets to back down. Bruce McGill played National Security Adviser Revill in this film; James Earl Jones played CIA DDI, Vice Admiral Greer, in the other three Jack Ryan films, and Harris Yulin played James Cutter in "Clear and Present Danger".

Answer: Spinnaker

Spinnaker was played by Michael Byrne, probably best known for playing the Nazi Colonel Vogel in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade".
10. When John Clark, Ryan's main field operative tracks down Ghazi, the Syrian scrap dealer who sold the bomb, Ghazi is seriously ill - from what is he suffering?
