"Triviatown" focuses on Stevens Point, home of the World's Largest Media Trivia Contest. It draws over 400 teams annually, with thousands of players. The contest literally takes over the town during the weekend it happens, and the film details how obsessive some players get about trivia.
The Stevens Point Contest started in 1969. The competition lasts 54 hours, from 6 p.m. Friday to midnight Sunday. There were 428 questions during the 2004 event. In Competition 35, there were 11,526 players on 443 registered teams.
Stevens Point is in central Wisconsin, which aside from the comtest produces Point Beer. The beer company actually sponsors a team.
Appleton does have a major trivia competition every year, held by Lawrence University in January, which began in 1966.

Do not be fooled by the winter clothing most people are wearing in the film - the contest is held in April. In Wisconsin, April can shift from 60 degrees one day to 20 degrees the next; sometimes the shift happens on the same day.
The Stevens Point Trivia Contest has been held every year in April.
"Triviatown" was shot during the 35th running of the contest, which took place on April 16-18, 2004.
The Lawrence Trivia contest is held in January.

WWSP 90FM, based in Stevens Point (hence the SP), is the home base for the trivia contest. It has been the home for the trivia contest since 1969. During the contest, it is packed with dozens of operators taking phone calls for the entire weekend. WWSP is owned by the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, and boasts that it is the largest student-run radio station in the Midwest.
The school's mascot is a dog -- a pointer, naturally.
WLFM is the station at Lawrence University that broadcasts its contest.
WISS, based in Berlin, Wisconsin, held a large annual trivia contest between 1982 and 2005.

"The Oz" is Jim Oliva in every day life. Jim's wife Kris competed on the team "Dyslexics of the World Untie" during the filming. "I love Jim, but I hate The Oz," stated Kris. Oliva began writing the questions for the contest in 1979.
John Oliver is the British correspondent on "The Daily Show." John Olver is a Democratic congressman from Massachusetts. Jose Olvera is a soccer player from Mexico.

Answer: Network

Network is the premier team of the Stevens Point Competition. They won 16 times between 1980 and 2003, and won several times after the 2004 competition. The star of the team is named Barry Heck, a computer genius with a phenomenal collection of facts. In the film, he shows off the team's almanac collection.

Answer: The Cakers

The Cakers spend much of their time on screen discussing drinking, alcohol or getting more alcohol so they could drink it. One member of the team is named Lush. Their team mascot is a space alien named Bloat, who has traveled around the world. The filmmakers even included a montage of Bloat's travels.

Answer: Television pilot

The first question in hour one concerns a television pilot seen on "Barnaby Jones" that served as the Pilot for a show about a father and son detective team. The answer: "The Kissin Cousin" which aired April 3, 1980.
The other topics mentioned do appear in "Triviatown" (2006). There is a great dispute between "The Oz" and one of the players over the wording of candy wrappers.

Answer: Fuzzy viking helmet

The person with a stamp for the "New Trivia Times" is wearing a fuzzy viking helmet. Finding him is worth 150 points for teams. "The Oz" gives directions to find him.
The T-shirts worn by "Dyslexics of the World" are tie-dyed. Several people in the film do wear Packers attire, but that is every day attire in northern Wisconsin.

Answer: Carroll O'Connor

Carroll O'Connor, Archie Bunker from "All in the Family," is on the shirt. "All in the Family" aired from 1971 to 1979. During its run, the show won 22 Emmy Awards, including four for Best Comedy Series and four for O'Connor as Best Actor.

Answer: The Knights of Neek

The Knights Who Say Neek won, with 9560 points. It was an especially poignant win for the team, since they lost a member, Stephanie Lynn Grubba, early in 2004. The makers of "Triviatown," Patrick Cady and Brit McAdams, dedicated the film to Grubba.
Network finished second with 8620 points. The eternally intoxicated Cakers finished sixth, under the name "Beer Eye for the Caker Guy" with 7025 points. And Norm's Stool finished in ninth place with 6750 points.
Graduates of a Lesser God finished in third place with 8085 points.
"TriviaTown" itself won some trophies: the Festival Trophy at the Westchester Film Festival, and the Wisconsin's Own award at the Wisconsin Film Festival.
