Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What are the names of the three backpackers headed for Wolf Creek?

Answer: Liz, Kristy and Ben

Ben is played by Australian actor Nathan Phillips, who has been in several TV shows, and a few Australian films. He was in the recent blockbuster, "Snakes on a Plane" with Samuel L. Jackson. Cassandra Magrath, who has also been in many TV shows in Australia, plays her character in "Wolf Creek", Liz, as being British, as does Kestie Morassi, despite both actresses being Australian. Kestie, who plays Kristy Earl in the film, has been in numerous films, including "Darkness Falls" (2003) and "The Illustrated Family Doctor" in 2005.

She also has been in TV shows, such as "The Secret Life of Us" and was in an episode of "Neighbours" in 1996.
2. Who plays Mick Taylor?

Answer: John Jarratt

Brilliantly scary John Jarratt has been in many TV shows over the years, such as "A Country Practice" from 1983-84 and, most memorably, in 38 episodes of "McLeod's Daughters", from 2001-06. His films include "All Men Are Liars" (1995) and his first ever film, "The Great McCarthy", back in 1975, when he was just 24 years old.
3. This film is based on true events?

Answer: Yes

It says at the start of the film that it is based on real events. It also tells us the harrowing fact that 30,000 people in Australia are reported missing each year. It also says that 90% of these people are found within a month and some are never seen again.
At the end of the film it says that no trace of the two girls, who this film was based on, were ever found.
4. Where does Nathan Phillips' character come from?

Answer: Sydney

This is mentioned a couple of times in the film. Firstly when Kristy and Liz are talking, and Liz asks "Do you really think he has a girlfriend back in Sydney?" Later on, Ben and Kristy are talking about Liz having a crush on him and it being mutual. Kristy then tells him, he better sort out his so-called girlfriend back in Sydney so he and Liz can sort out what is going on between them.
5. Which of these places do they not stop at, once they have set off?

Answer: Broome Creek

They start off in Broome, a town in western Australia. This is the place where they have their party, buy a car and food, and set off from, planning to stop at the Wolf Creek crater on their way to their final destination. They stop off at Halls Creek first, and stay over night in a caravan park. Next they come to Emu Creek, where they fill up their car, and meet some rather nasty men in the bar. Also, we find out later, this is where Mick first sees them, as we realise his truck is parked in the car park where they are. Next they come to Wolf Creek, and this is the last place they drive to, as their car breaks, and have to be "rescued" by Mick. We find out later he was the one responsible for their car breaking.
6. Which character does not smoke?

Answer: They all do

We see all three of the friends smoke at some point during the film. In fact, most of the people we see in the film smoke, including the horrible men in the bar.
7. Who first sees the truck approaching when they are stranded at the crater site?

Answer: Kristy

Kristy first sees lights, and says it might be a car. Ben scares them all as he has been telling them about aliens and says it might be a UFO. As the lights draw nearer, Ben soon realises it's a truck, and gets out his car to wave the passer-by over for help.
8. What does Mick compare kangaroos to?

Answer: Tourists

In this scene, the three backpackers and Mick are seated around a fire, talking about Mick's previous job. He says he was head shooter on a farm, getting rid of vermin, "'roos, horses, pigs, buffalos". Ben asks what job Mick does now, to which Mick replies, "I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you", laughing afterwards. We know now that this is not so much of a joke and is true! Kristy asks "You don't really shoot kangaroos do you?" to which Mick says, "I'm doing people a service, they're everywhere around here now, like tourists!" This lightens the mood again and they continue on with their chat.
9. Who wakes up in the small shed?

Answer: Liz

This is the first shot we see, after the campers go to sleep by the fire as Mick fixes their car. Liz wakes up, with her hands and feet tied up and mouth gagged. Out the window we can see it is growing dark, as we see the sun going down. This shows she has been in there all the previous night and day.

She struggles a lot, and finally manages to cut her restraints with some broken glass. Escaping through a window, she goes off to try find her friends.
10. What colour is the truck the girls steal to escape in?

Answer: Blue

This is Mick's truck. With Kristy in shock in the passenger seat, Liz starts the truck and drives towards Mick, to stop him shooting his gun at them. She knocks him down, and partially destroys the barn. After she drives away, with Mick following in another truck, they end up at a cliff and decide to push the truck over the edge to make it look like they went over, so Mick would think they were dead.
11. Who goes back to Mick's site to get a car?

Answer: Liz

When Liz returns to Mick's campsite to get a car, he catches her and, after she threatens him with a small pen knife, he takes out his big knife and hilariously repeats what Ben had said earlier, "That's not a knife. This, is a knife!" when quoting the film "Crocodile Dundee".

He uses it to cut her fingers off and, about the only time he shouts in the film, brilliantly delivers the line "That's for wrecking my truck!"
12. The first time we see Ben after Liz wakes up is when he escapes?

Answer: False

We see a brief shot of Ben waking up, in between shots of the girls walking back to the campsite to get a car. He looks covered in blood and tied up. This is the last we see of him until the end where he escapes.
13. What nationality are the backpackers who find Ben at the end of the film?

Answer: Swedish

The two backpackers are played by Guy Petersen and Jenny Starvall. At the end of the film, we see Ben passed out on some grass. A silhouette of a person in a hat similar to the one Mick wears appears over Ben. Thankfully it is that of a passing backpacker, who takes Ben to safety.
14. Who directs the film?

Answer: Greg McLean

Virtually unknown before this film, director Greg McLean also wrote "Wolf Creek". His only role previous to this. as director (and also writer), was on a short Australian mystery film, "ICQ", released in 2001. He also directed "Rogue" - an action packed horror film, about a man eating crocodile, set in Australia.
15. What is written on the cake at the start of the film?

Answer: HAPPY TRAVELS

This is the cake we see at the beginning of the film, when the three backpackers are at their going away party. They all end up drunk and in the swimming pool, finally waking up on the beach. The cake, white with blue writing on, also has the outline of Australia on it and a toy car.
