quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Bob Dylan sang the song 'All Along The Watchtower' which was more famously covered by Jimi Hendrix. Complete the first line: 'There must be some kind of way out of here, said...'.

Answer: the joker to the thief.

Bob Dylan was so impressed with Jimi Hendrix's version that for years Dylan played it the way that Jimi had recorded it. Dylan once said that whenever he played the song it reminded him of the late Hendrix
2. What does Jim Morrison of The Doors say to one lucky lady in the song 'Hello, I Love You'?

Answer: Hello, I love you, won't you tell me your name?

The music to this song is similar to 'All Day And All Of The Night' by The Kinks. The Doors had to pay royalties after Ray Davies of The Kinks sued them. Apparently written by Jim Morrison when seeing a girl on a beach. Band member Ray talked him out of chatting her up as she was underage.
3. 'I asked Bobby Dylan, I asked __________, I asked Timothy Leary but he couldn't help me either.' Who was the second artist that The Who asked for help from in 'The Seeker'?

Answer: The Beatles

The Beatles and The Who got on very well with each other. Keith Moon was Ringo Starr's best friend and was godfather to Ringo's son Zak Starkey. When Keith Moon died in 1979 he was replaced by Kenney Jones, who was later replaced by Zak Starkey himself. Keith Moon, John Lennon and Ringo Starr once shared an apartment together along with Harry Nilsson, Harry's fiancee and Klaus Voorman
4. When Marc Bolan sang 'could it be, you're gonna bring my baby to me', who was he talking about?

Answer: Metal Guru

Linking back to the fact I gave before, Marc Bolan of T.Rex was also very good friends with Keith Moon and Ringo Starr. Originally named Mark Feld, he apparently changed his surname by taking the first and last letters from one of his favourite musicians Bob Dylan
5. Complete the lyric for 'Killing In The Name' by Rage Against The Machine: 'Those who died are ________, for wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites'.

Answer: justified

This was Rage Against The Machine's first single and was released in the early 90s. It has obvious references to the KKK ('some of those that work foces, are the same that burn crosses') This song features on the game 'GTA: San Andreas'.
6. In the song 'She Sells Sanctuary' by The Cult, what does 'the fire in her eyes' do?

Answer: keeps me alive

This song featured on the soundtrack for the video game 'GTA: Vice City'. Former Cult singer Ian Astbury is now touring with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger (former memebers of The Doors) under the name 'The Doors: 21st Century'. Drummer Matt Sorum is currently in the band Velvet Revolver
7. Complete the lyrics from the song 'Easily' by the Red Hot Chili Peppers: 'The story of a woman on the morning of a war....'

Answer: remind me if you will exactly what we're fighting for

This song was released on the 1999 'Californication' album, which is probably their most successful LP to date. The album re-introduced John Frusciante on guitar after he quit the band in 1992 following a heroin addiction.
8. Which of these lyrics is NOT a line from 'I Am The Walrus' by The Beatles?

Answer: He got monkey finger, he shoot coca-cola

'He got monkey finger, he shoot coca-cola' is actually a line from 'Come Together' another song by The Beatles. John Lennon wrote 'I Am The Walrus' when he found out that people were trying to analyze his lyrics.
9. 'I think me, I want life, I think me, I want _________.' What else does Serj Tankian want in 'Shimmy' by System Of A Down?

Answer: a house and a wife

This song is from the album 'Toxicity' which includes some of the band's more well known songs such as 'Chop Suey!' and 'Aerials'. 'Shimmy' features on the video game 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4'.
10. The Kinks sang about living on 'Dead End Street'. Complete the following lyrics: 'There's a crack up in the ceiling...'.

Answer: and the kitchen sink is leaking

Ray Davies is God. Well, not really, but somebody said it once in a magazine and it's a quote that's always stuck with me. There's a line in this song saying 'What are we living for? Two roomed appartment on the second floor' For my whole life (well about a month) I was convinced it said 'What are we living for? tunes are popping on the second floor'. I personally think my version is better and I will be writing a letter to Ray and Dave ASAP making some recommendations!
