Billboard number 13, June 27, 1970. This was a manufactured British pop group which was formed in 1969. Its lead singer, Tony Burrows, was also the voice of other one hit wonder groups of the early 70's, notably, The Brotherhood of Man (United We Stand), The Pipkins (Gimme Dat Ding), and Edison Lighthouse (Love Grows). Two other members of the group, Pete Nelson, and Robin Shaw, would hook up again in 1974, doing First Class' "Beach Baby".
2. "I've Found Someone Of My Own" went Top 5 in 1971. Who sang this one?

Billboard number five, November 13, 1971. They had a real quick pop, forming in 1970, in Los Angeles, cut this hit, released one other song in 1972, which made it to #50, and promptly disppeared. You may remember this song which was about a couple who had both found new lovers.
3. The theme song from the movie "Billy Jack" made it into the Top 40 in 1971. Who sang "One Tin Soldier (The Legend Of Billy Jack)"?

Billboard number 26, November 27, 1971. Coven's version of this song is said to be the biggest selling war protest song of all time. The song was actually sung by only one member of the group, Jinx Dawson, but the group is given credit for it on the soundtrack of "Billy Jack".

The group toured extensively in the late 60's with such groups as the Yardbirds, Alice Cooper, and Vanilla Fudge.
4. "The City Of New Orleans" got a mention in 1972 and made the Top 20. Who sang it?

Answer: Arlo Guthrie

Billboard number 18, October 28, 1972. The son of Woody gained fame with his "Alice's Restaurant", a protest song of the late 60's concerning the Vietnam War. The song turned up on most college campuses during that time. The song referred to here, was actually titled after, and is a tribute to trains, and train travel.

Billboard number ten, August 5, 1972. The song was actually a love song about Eric Clapton being in love with George Harrison's first wife, Patti Boyd. The song was recorded in 1970, but not released as a single until 1972. This is considered by many to be Clapton's defining moment.

Answer: Carl Douglas

Billboard number one, December 7, 1974. Born in Jamaica, this was Douglas" only charting hit. He now lives in Germany.

Answer: Rick Dees and His Cast Of Idiots

Billboard number one, October 16, 1976. Dees really was no idiot. He was born in 1950, and got his first radio gig while still in high school. He has won a People's Choice Award, a Marconi Award, been nominated for a Grammy, and has been inducted into the Broadcast Hall Of Fame, as well as the National Radio Hall Of Fame. "Duck" was recorded in 1976, while Dees was working at a Memphis, Tennessee radio station.

The station fired him after he talked about the song on the air, against their orders.

He went to another station in Memphis for a few years and then moved to Los Angeles in 1979 where he became the top rated DJ on the West coast, and started syndication of a weekly Top 40 countdown, which still airs today.

Billboard number one, October 28, 1978. Gilder was a successful Canadian musician who scored with this hit on his own. He has written a number of hits for other artists, such as Scandal, Bette Midler, Joe Cocker, and Pat Benatar.

Billboard number one, November 3, 1979. This was a London techno-band of the late 70's, fronted by Robin Scott, who had their only Top 40 entry with this hit. Members of the group went on to form the group "Level 42" in the 80's.

In fact this song was a number one hit in the U.K. although only sneaking in to the Top 40 here. Oh yes, the trivia question, for those who don't know it was, "What was the first video ever played on MTV when it went on the air in 1981?" The video for this song is the answer.
