Mike Brewer and Tom Shipley didn't begin their musical careers together. However, they teamed up in 1971 to make the hit "One Toke Over the Line," a song with marijuana-related lyrics.

Born in 1953,in Winnipeg, Canada, Terry Jacks was a former member of the hit group The Poppy Family. While working in the studio with the Beach Boys, he attempted to persuade them to record "Le Moribund", a song about a dying man by French composer Jacques Brel. When the group declined, Jacks himself recorded the English translation by Rod McKuen, retitled "Seasons In The Sun", in 1974.

While a member of the singing group, "The Young Americans," a journalist reviewing a concert mentioned Lawrence's resemblance to Carol Burnett. Vicki sent the clipping to Burnett, which won her an audition to Carol's popular show, from which she was accepted as a cast member.

She hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop charts for two weeks with this song,in 1973, written by then-husband Bobby Russell.
