Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the bird encouraged to learn to fly with, in the 1968 Beatles' song suggested by the picture?

Answer: broken wings

The line from the song "Blackbird" is "Blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly."
This McCartney penned song (credited to Lennon-McCartney as most of their songs were) was released on the album commonly known as "The White Album", although it was officially called "The Beatles". McCartney has said that he wrote the song because of racial issues that were occurring in the United States
that year. Unfortunately, the lyrics were interpreted a little differently by murderer Charlie Manson, who saw it as the Beatles instructing him and his family to "arise" and start a racial war.
2. What did the girl in possession of an item like the one seen in the picture have, according to the 1965 Beatles' song?

Answer: ticket to ride

The song was predominantly written by Lennon. Lennon's explanation of the song's title made reference to the clean bill of health tickets that prostitutes carried in Germany, during the band's time there.
It was released on the album "Help!", the sound track for the Beatles' second movie, with the same name. The single release of the song reached No. 1 in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K.
In the movie, the fab four can be seen frolicking around on skis and sleds while being pursued by the fictional religious cult members, seeking the ring that had been sent to Ringo.
3. Where was the girl who was associated with the stones seen in the picture, in the 1967 Beatles' song?

Answer: in the sky

Released on the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album, the song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" caused a lot of controversy because the letters of the title and the imagery strongly suggested that the song was about LSD. Lennon denied this at the time, claiming that he got his inspiration from a picture his son had drawn. Years later, McCartney admitted that the song was indeed about the drug.
The song has been covered many times, most notably by Elton John in 1974. His version hit No. 1 in Canada and the U.S. but only made it to No. 10 in the U.K.
4. What was the vegetable seen in the picture made of, in the 1968 Beatles' song?

Answer: glass

Written by Lennon and released on "The White Album" (aka "The Beatles"), "Glass Onion" contained many references to other Beatles' songs. Lennon was having fun with the whole Paul is dead conspiracy theories and was tossing out lines to further confuse the issue.
The term 'glass onion' has since made it into the Urban Dictionary as an expression that means to over-analyse something, as fans were over-analysing the lyrics of Beatles' songs.
5. The name of this 1968 Beatles' song was taken from the children's amusement ride seen in the picture. What was it?

Answer: Helter Skelter

The title 'Helter Skelter' had the double attraction of being both the name of an amusement park slide and an expression meaning something that is quickly and incompetently done. McCartney wrote the song because he wanted to do one that was noisy. It was released on "The White Album".
Charles Manson and his family also interpreted this song as a trigger for the race war they were trying to start in California.
6. What is the occupation featured in the 1966 Beatles' song suggested by the picture?

Answer: writer

"Paperback Writer" was the eleventh single released by the Beatles and it reached No. 1 in many countries.
It was allegedly inspired by a comment from Paul's aunt that all their songs were love songs. This prompted the writing of several songs, including this one, that were not love songs.
7. What 1967 Beatles' song could this picture suggest?

Answer: A Day in the Life

"A Day in the Life" was originally released on the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album. It was written primarily by Lennon, with McCartney contributing the middle section that started with, "Woke up, got out of bed...". McCartney also contributed the line that got the song banned by the BBC - "I'd love to turn you on."
Lennon drew from newspapers and movies for his lyrics while McCartney reflected on earlier times in his life for his contribution.
8. This 1967 Beatles' song title featured the name of this bird and what other word?

Answer: way

Written by George Harrison, "Blue Jay Way" was released on the album "Magical Mystery Tour". The song was written when a tired Harrison was waiting for a friend to show up at a house that he had rented on Blue Jay Way. The fog and some of the discussion really happened.
9. What one word, 1966 Beatles' song might be inspired by the weather seen in this picture?

Answer: Rain

Written by Lennon "Rain" was released as the B side to "Paperback Writer" in 1966. The inspiration for the song was said to have come from the torrential rain experienced by the group when they arrived in Melbourne, Australia.
10. In the 1969 Beatles' song title, what word is used to describe the object seen in this picture?

Answer: old

Written by George Harrison, "Old Brown Shoe" was released as the B side to "The Ballad of John and Yoko".
George wrote the melody first and then chose lyrics that featured a lot of opposites, such as up/down and right/wrong.
