Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From which song are these lyrics? "Varför sörjer du----------------? Varför klingar din gitarr i moll, vad är det som står på? År det kärleken --------------?"

Answer: Fernando

Geographically and culturally situated very far from Scandinavia the lyrics of "Fernando" tell about a certain revolution or war in Mexico, or Texas perhaps. (The "Rio Grande" is mentioned in the lyrics)
2. From which song is this title? "Väntar Inte Mamma På Dig?"

Answer: Does Your Mother Know?

"Does Your Mother Know" was an exception to the the typical "ABBA formula", in that the lead vocals were sung not by Agnetha or Anni-Frid as was usually the case, but by Björn Ulvaeus. This was one of the few ABBA singles to feature Ulvaeus as the sole lead vocal, along with 'Rock Me'.
3. From which song are these lyrics? "----------------underbara, ah-ha söta rara, ah-ha------------------- dom viskar så söta ord du är deras allt på jord" det där ska du inte tro bara ta't med ro sånt är bara smicker

Answer: Honey Honey

It was released as a single in April, 1974. Strangely, it was, in the beginning, NOT released in the UK.
4. From which song are these lyrics? "Var är den lycka som Jag en gång frömde om ? Du har förändrat dej Och är så långt från mej" Var är dom känslor som du haft Hur har det blivit så ?

Answer: SOS

"SOS" was the third single from ABBA's self-titled 1975 album. In the 2008 "Mamma Mia!" film adaptation, the song is performed by Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. (Not in Swedish though!)
5. From which song are these lyrics? "Men, men----------------- Sitt öde kan man möta på så många skilda sätt Själv känner jag sen jag mött dig Historien upprepar sig---------------"

Answer: Waterloo

The song won ABBA the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest on 6 April and began their path to worldwide fame. Unlike other Eurovision-winning songs, the tune's appeal transcended Europe: "Waterloo" also reached the Top Ten in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Rhodesia and the United States among many other countries.
6. From which song are these lyrics? "Allt var bara kallt och grått och trist När jag ringde igår från Glasgow Dålig mat och resor och till sist"

Answer: Super Trouper

Probably due to the disco backlash of the time, the album saw ABBA returning to a more straightforward pop sound, as opposed to the preceding (and noticeably more dance-oriented) "Voulez-Vous" album. It was the best selling album in the UK during the whole of 1980.
7. This is a title of a song: "Jag Vill, Jag Vill, Jag Vill, Jag Vill, Jag Vill"

Answer: I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do

The song, presumably because of its title as much as the sentiment, is popular at weddings and featured in Australian film "Muriel's Wedding" when the ABBA-mad title character gets married.
8. From which song are these lyrics? "Tyst och död är telefon Står där nästan som ett fån Inte ringer du och säger älskling nu som du gjorde"

Answer: Ring Ring

"Ring Ring" is a 1973 single by ABBA, which gave the group their big first break into fame. "Ring Ring", unlike almost all of the rest of ABBA's songs, was originally written and sung in Swedish first, not in English.
9. "---------------- är jag där igen? Nej, nej, kan jag inte vända? ----------, du är här igen. Säg, säg, kan du va' den enda?"

Answer: Mamma Mia!

The song's name is derived from Italian, where it is an interjection used in situations of surprise, anguish, or excitement. It's release in September 1975 was the true beginning to the start of "ABBAMANIA" worldwide. In the UK Singles Chart dated 31 January 1976, "Mamma Mia" replaced Queen's song "Bohemian Rhapsody" at the number one position, which itself coincidentally contains the lyrical phrase "Mamma Mia". Lately it became a huge success as a musical and on the big screen as we all know.
10. Even though it was not their mother tongue, ABBA sang in English. But they also used other languages to sing their songs like Spanish, French, German, Japanese and of course, their native Swedish.

Answer: true

ABBA recorded a full Spanish album "Gracias Por La Musica" making this language the most used after English. German was extensively used also. In spite of some wording in French in their hits (like "Voulez-Vous") the only song totally translated into French was "Waterloo" and "I Have A Dream" the only in Japanese. Most surprising is the fact that they used their native tongue, Swedish, to sing only five songs (If we only count the songs sang as a group, not as "solo" or just some of the members of the group separately)
