Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Beatles song is namechecked in "Supersonic"?

Answer: Yellow Submarine

This was the first Oasis single, released in April 1994, and written in the recording studio during sessions for the "Definitely Maybe" album. It contains the line "Can I ride with you in your BMW?/You can sail with me in my yellow submarine".
2. One of the B-sides to "Supersonic" was an acoustic track called "Take Me Away". It contains the lines "I'd like to be/Under the sea", a lyrical steal from Ringo's "Octopus's Garden", but on which other Oasis song do these lines appear?

Answer: The Masterplan

These lines appear in the last few seconds of the song, complete with the "In an octopus's garden in the shade" line. Noel has also included these lines in live solo versions of "Whatever".
3. Which Oasis track mentions "The Fool On The Hill"?

Answer: D'yer Know What I Mean?

This McCartney tune is namechecked in this, the first Oasis single taken from the 1997 LP "Be Here Now".
4. Another Beatles song is mentioned in the lyrics to "My Big Mouth". Which is it?

Answer: The Long And Winding Road

This was one of the first songs written for the "Be Here Now" LP and was showcased at gigs in 1996 and 1997. An early choice for first single from the album, it was later dropped in favour of "D'yer Know What I Mean?".
5. Which Beatles album is mentioned in the song "Be Here Now"?

Answer: Let It Be

The lyric is "Sing a song for me/One from 'Let It Be'". The phrase 'let it be' also appears in another Oasis song - The Masterplan ("please brother let it be").
6. In which video is Liam seen holding a Paul McCartney album?

Answer: Shakermaker

On the way to the studio to record an extra verse for "Shakermaker", Noel realised he had no lyrics for it. On the way, the car stopped at some traffic lights by a familiar record shop, "Sifter's". Noel turned this journey into the missing verse ("Mr Sifter sold me songs/When I was just 16/Now he stops at traffic lights/But only when they're green").

The video for the single was shot partly at the record shop, and during this verse Liam is seen holding the Paul McCartney and Wings LP "Red Rose Speedway".
7. The video to "All Around The World" (itself a nod to "Yellow Submarine") features the band in white suits. The Beatles wore white suits while performing which song during the film "Magical Mystery Tour"?

Answer: Your Mother Should Know

This sequence in the film, where the band theatrically descend a wide staircase, added fuel to the fire of the ridiculous 'Paul is dead' rumour-mill. Here, Paul is seen sporting a black carnation while the other Beatles wear red - an 'obvious' clue that Paul is dead.
8. The front cover of the "Live Forever" single features a photograph of the childhood home of which Beatle?

Answer: John

The front cover is a negative shot of 251 Menlove Avenue, Liverpool, where John lived between 1945 and 1963. The house was known as 'Mendips' and John lived there with his Aunt Mimi. It is now a National Trust property.
9. The melody for the Liam track "Guess God Thinks I'm Abel", by his own admission, is a slowed down version of which early Beatles song?

Answer: I Wanna Be Your Man

The first line of the Oasis song even echoes the first line of this Ringo-sung tune - "I could be your lover" and "I wanna be your lover baby". The Beatles also gave this song to the Rolling Stones to give them their first ever top 20 hit in November 1963.
10. John was once asked to sum up the 60's in one phrase. His answer is the title of which Oasis album?

Answer: Be Here Now

Noel came across this quote while reading a Beatles biography during sessions for their third album.
