Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Between 1964 and 1966, Sherman was a regular on which music TV show, presented by Jimmy O'Neill?

Answer: Shindig!

"Shindig!" (1964-66) was a music variety show on ABC which featured stars such as Glen Campbell, Leon Russell and Billy Preston, who were all trying to make a name for themselves at the time.
Dance troupe, The Shin-Diggers were a major part of the show and were choreographed for a time by Antonia Basilotta, who would herself gain fame in the 1980s as Toni Basil, when she had a hit with the song "Mickey." (1981).
A large part of "Shindig!'s" attraction was regular sections on the UK music scene, featuring artists such as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Who.
2. Between 1968 and 1970, Sherman starred in the ABC television series "Here Come The Brides", alongside which fellow teen idol?

Answer: David Soul

"Here Come The Brides" (1968-70) was a short lived comedy western that is probably best remembered now for a 1969 episode guest starring Bruce Lee in his only dramatic English language non-martial arts role. Sherman played the role of Jeremy Bolt and the part of his brother, Joshua, was played by David Soul. Soul would go on to achieve fame as Detective Ken Hutchinson in the cop show, "Starsky And Hutch" (1975-79), as well as taking the hugely popular songs "Don't Give Up On Us Baby" (1976) and "Silver Lady" (1977) into the top ten of charts all around the world. Fun fact, between 1971 and 1979, Sherman was married to Patti Carnel. Following their divorce in 1979, she dated David Soul and was married to him between 1980 and 1986.

Here comes the bride indeed.
3. Teen idol Sherman recorded a version of the "Here Come The Brides" (1968-70) theme song, "Seattle" (1968) but never had a hit with it. Which 56 year old, non teen idol did reach the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 in USA with the song in 1969?

Answer: Perry Como

Perry Como's version of the song reached number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA, giving him his biggest hit on that chart since "Dream On, Little Dreamer" in 1965.
Also in 1969, Connie Francis recorded a version of the track for her album, "Connie's Country" and the song lives on, despite never being a major hit, as it is sung by fans of Seattle Sounders soccer club at home games.
4. Sherman guested on a show known for another teen idol when he played a surfer who could sing. Whose show, which ran from 1966 to 1968 was this?

Answer: The Monkees

The 1967 episode, "Monkees at the Movies" which featured Sherman as Frankie Catalina is regularly mentioned as one of the best episodes of the Monkees' show.
The plot of the show sees the band given the chance to star in a teen movie, starring teen idol Frankie Catalina (Sherman), whom they soon discover is pompous and egotistical.
The Monkees manage to ruin every scene Catalina is in, annoying him to the extent that he walks off set, allowing Davy Jones to step into his role and take over as the new teen idol.
Needless to say, when the Monkees are involved, this like so many of their schemes doesn't go smoothly.
5. In 1969, Sherman had the biggest hit of his career when which record peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA?

Answer: Little Woman

"Little Woman" (1969) sold a million copies but was kept off the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in USA by "Jean" (1969) from Oliver and "Sugar Sugar" (1969) by the Archies.
The record also performed well in Canada, where it peaked at number two and New Zealand, reaching number five. Of the other possible answers, "Easy Come, Easy Go" (1970) and "La La La (If I Had You)" (1969) were both top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA, while "Jennifer" (1971) was not a success, peaking at number 60 on the same chart
6. Despite his many hits in USA, Sherman had only one UK chart hit. Which record was this?

Answer: Julie, Do Ya Love Me

"Julie, Do Ya Love Me" (1970) was Sherman's sole venture into the UK singles chart, where it peaked at number 28 in 1970. The track was a much bigger hit across the Atlantic, hitting number two in Canada and number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA.

It was also a number three hit in Australia, and the poor placing on the UK chart could be due to the fact that White Plains had also released the song there, with their version being a bigger hit, eventually reaching number eight on UK charts.
7. Between 1971 and 1972, Sherman starred in a TV spin off from the very successful show, "The Partridge Family" (1970-74). What was this unsuccessful spin off called?

Answer: Getting Together

In "A Knight In Shining Armor", the season one finale of "The Partridge Family" (1970-74), Bobby Sherman was cast as songwriter Bobby Conway. In the show, he was introduced to fellow songwriter Lionel Poindexter, played by Wes Stern, and their new partnership formed the basis for "Getting Together" (1971-72). The show was put up against the hugely popular CBS show, "All In The Family" (1971-79), which did it no favours at all as it was cancelled after just 14 episodes.

Although it was of no help to the show, it was quite interesting that each episode had the title of a well known song as the episode title, with examples being "Cathy's Clown" which was episode two in 1971, "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?" (1971) which was episode six and "Broken-Hearted Melody" (1972), the title of the final episode.
8. In 1998, Sherman took part in the teen idol tour, alongside which other stars of his heyday?

Answer: Peter Noone and Davy Jones

The guys may have aged slightly since their glory years, but their voices were still as good as ever and fans in their thousands turned up to hear the hits of Sherman, The Monkees and Herman's Hermits.
The tour was so successful that it continued through into 1999 and when Davy Jones had to drop out due to prior commitments, his place was filled by another Monkee, Micky Dolenz.
There was even a compilation album produced for the tour, sold only at the concert venues, featuring the hits of Sherman, Noone and Jones. Included on it were tracks such as "Little Woman" (1969) and "Cried Like a Baby" (1971) from Sherman, "I'm Into Something Good" (1964) and "There's a Kind of Hush" (1967) from Noone and "Girl" (1971) and "Daydream Believer" (1967) by Jones.
9. As the hits and acting jobs slowly dried up, Sherman found a new calling. What was his new career path?

Answer: Emergency medical technician

Sherman has stated that his pathway to becoming an EMT started when he guest-starred on a 1974 episode of the TV series "Emergency!" (1972-77) and this interest was further fuelled when he took a Red Cross first aid class in 1978 when his two sons, Christopher and Tyler, were little.
Once qualified, he gave CPR and first aid classes, as well as volunteering with the Los Angeles Police Department with whom he eventually became a technical Reserve Police Officer and medical training officer, responsible for instructing thousands of police officers in first aid and CPR.
10. Which much deserved award did Sherman collect in 1999?

Answer: LAPD Reserve Officer Of The Year

Despite all his success as a musical artist, actor and teen heartthrob, Sherman treasures his 1999 LAPD Reserve Officer Of The Year award more than any other. The LAPD Reserve Corps receive the same training as sworn officers and work alongside them in many dangerous situations, but perform the task purely out of love for their city.
The Reserve Corps' motto is, "To be a Reserve is to be twice a citizen." and Sherman has certainly lived up to that high standard, with many Los Angeles citizens throughout the years benefiting from the first aid training he provided to officers.
