Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What song contains the line "Well I don't know where they come from but they sure do come"?

Answer: Cat Scratch Fever

The lyric is the opening line in the song by Ted Nugent.
2. Which type of dog was mentioned in the lyrics of 'Lodi' and 'On Broadway'?

Answer: Greyhound

The references in both songs are to the Greyhound Bus company. "I came in on a Greyhound, I'll be walking out when I go," is the line from 'Lodi,' and "I'll catch a Greyhound bus for home, they all say," is the line from 'On Broadway.'

From "Hungry like the Wolf" by Duran Duran. The video for this song was filmed in Sri Lanka, which I don't believe has any native wolves.

The tigerlily (Lilium lancifolum) probably has little to do with tigers (Panthera tigris) except for their color.
6. Which of the following is the title of a Smashing Pumpkins album?

Answer: Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

Okay, this was just my excuse to try to come up with some equally bad wordplay.

Answer: a wildcat

"Outside in the distance, a wildcat did growl, two riders were approaching, and the wind began to howl." are the last words in the song.
8. Which of the following songs is by Joni Mitchell?

Answer: Coyote

This song has interesting lyrics. Coyote is sort of used as a proper noun.
9. What is the name of the person who was being addressed in a song by both the Ad Libs and Manhattan Transfer?

10. What song by Big Mama Thornton was recorded by another artist and went to number 1 on the Billboard Charts?

Answer: Hound Dog

The other version was performed by Elvis Presley. Given the theme of this quiz, it probably would have been a give away if I mentioned who the other artist was.
11. In Bob Dylan's song "Like a Rolling Stone," what does the diplomat carry on his shoulder?

Answer: A Siamese cat

"You used to ride on your chrome horse with your diplomat, who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat" is the line from the song. With Dylan lyrics, anything is possible. Leopard-Skin Pillbox Hat is the title of another song by Dylan.

Black Dog is never mentioned in the lyrics of the song.

17. What cat-like middle name was once used by a singer born in Seymour, Indiana?

Answer: Cougar

The singer is John Cougar Mellencamp. The Cougar was added by marketing people who liked the way it sounded. Mellencamp dropped it later.
18. Which of the following is an album by Joe Cocker?

Answer: Mad Dogs and Englishmen

Cocker's Spaniels and Leon Russell Terriers are dog breed puns that I made up. Cats in the Cradle is a song by Harry Chapin.
19. Which of the following songs was performed by Al Stewart?

Answer: Year of the Cat

Year of the Cat was first performed by Al Stewart in the 1970's. It was later recorded by Lemonheads.
