Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Misirlou"
Answer: Dick Dale & The Del-Tones
American rock guitarist Richard Anthony Monsour was born on 4th May 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts, and was given the name "Dick Dale" by cowboy Guy "Texas Tiny" Cherry, as he thought this was a good country singer name. With his band The Del-Tones, Dale released his American surf rock version of the traditional Eastern Mediterranean song "Misirlou" in 1962, and it plays in the movie as the Angels and Bosley (played by Bernie Mac) are at the beach looking for the killer of protected witness Alan Caulfield (played by Eric Bogosian).
2. "Surfer Girl"
Answer: The Beach Boys
One of the most critically acclaimed and enduring bands of all-time, The Beach Boys were formed in 1961, and originally consisted of the Wilson brothers Brian, Carl, and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Pioneers of "surf rock", many of the Californian rockers' songs have a surfing theme, and their 1963 single "Surfer Girl" is no exception.
It plays as ex-Angel Madison Lee (played by Demi Moore) talks to Natalie (played by Cameron Diaz) on the beach before speeding off in her red sports car.
3. "Danger! High Voltage"
Answer: Electric Six
The American alternative rock band Electric Six were formed in Detroit, Michigan in 2001. Their debut single "Danger! High Voltage", which was released in early 2003, reached number two in the UK Singles chart, and catapulted the band to mainstream success.
The song plays as Randy Emmers (played by Rodrigo Santoro) runs from the sea onto the beach and to his car, followed by Natalie, as Dylan (played by Drew Barrymore) and Alex (played by Lucy Liu) are under his car looking at his personal effects to get information on the person they believe may be Alan Caulfield's killer.
4. "Thunder Kiss '65"
Answer: White Zombie
The short-lived American heavy metal band White Zombie were formed in New York City in 1985, and disbanded in 1988. "Thunder Kiss '65" was released as the lead single from their third studio album "La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume One" in 1992. It plays as the Angels, posing as bikers, check out the Coal Bowl, where they believe Randy Emmers may be targeting his next victim, someone who goes by the name of Leo. Natalie says that she will buy in to the race, Alex says she'll find Leo, and Dylan says she'll look for Emmers. Remembering that Dylan formed an instant attraction to Emmers at the beach, Natalie and Alex stop Dylan, and Alex advises "I'll look for Emmers", to which Dylan responds "All right Leo, you're mine".
5. "Feel Good Time"
Answer: Pink
American singer-songwriter Alecia Beth Moore, known professionally as Pink (which is often stylised as P!nk) was born on 8th September 1979 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Her 2003 single "Feel Good Time", which features English musician William Orbit, was released as the lead single from her third studio album "Try This".
It plays at the Coal Bowl as the race starter (played by Pink herself) accepts Natalie's buy in, we see Alex cold shoulder a racer who tries to talk to her, Natalie show bravado to a fellow racer, and a mysterious racer dressed in black looking at Dylan in an apparently threatening manner.
6. "Breathe"
Answer: The Prodigy
Formed in Braintree, Essex by songwriter and keyboardist Liam Howlett in 1990, English electronic dance music group The Prodigy burst onto the scene in 1991 with their debut single "Charly", which features samples from the BBC Public Information Film, "Charley Says".
Their 1996 single "Breathe", which was a number one hit in the UK, Ireland, Finland, and Norway, plays as the race starter drops hers arms to start the race, and the riders, including Natalie, begin their winner-takes-all competition, which we quickly see has no rules, just as the race starter advised Natalie when she bought in.
As the race continues, Alex and Dylan both acquire bikes and join in to help Natalie chase Emmers, who appears to be intent on chasing down and killing Leo, who we subsequently find out is really called Max (played by Shia LaBeouf).
7. "Livin' On A Prayer"
Answer: Bon Jovi
One of the best-selling American rock bands of all-time, Bon Jovi were formed in Sayreville, New Jersey in 1983, and originally consisted of Jon Bon Jovi, Alec John Susch, David Bryan, and Richie Sambora. Their 1986 US number one single "Livin' On A Prayer" is probably their best known song, and it plays as we see Dylan in her life before she "went into the witness protection programme eight years ago", when she was known by her real name, Helen Zass, driving with her then boyfriend Seamus O'Grady (played by Justin Theroux) "listening to metal".
8. "Nuthin' But A 'G' Thang"
Answer: Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg
American rappers Dr. Dre (real name Andre Romelle Young) and Snoop Dogg (real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.) collaborated to release the 1992 single "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang", which appears on Dr. Dre's debut studio album "The Chronic". It plays as we see Bosley dropping Max off at Bosley's Momma's house to keep him safe, as Max had previously testified against the O'Grady clan.
9. "Working For The Weekend"
Answer: Loverboy
The Canadian rock band Loverboy formed in Calgary, Alberta in 1979. Subsequently becoming one of their arena rock staples, "Working For The Weekend" was released as the lead single from their second studio album "Get Lucky" in 1981. It plays as we see Jason (played by Matt LeBlanc) watering the plants at Alex's house, listening to his personal stereo, unaware that Alex's father (played by John Cleese) is there. Jason stops his personal stereo, takes off his headphones, and introduces himself to Alex's father as "Alex's boyfriend".
10. "Flashdance... What A Feeling"
Answer: Irene Cara
American singer-songwriter Irene Cara Escalera, known professionally as Irene Cara, was born on 18th March 1959 in The Bronx, New York City. She co-wrote and sang the Academy Award-winning "Flashdance... What A Feeling", which was originally released in 1983, for the 1983 movie "Flashdance" starring Jennifer Beals.
The song plays in "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" as we see the Angels, disguised as dock workers, on a platform welding a boat at San Pedro Harbor before taking a break to have their sandwiches and take a look around from their favourable vantage point.
