Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Hopefully this opener won't test you too much. Which act released "Back In Black" in 1980?

Answer: AC/DC

"Back In Black" has a great title track. It was released after the death of Bon Scott as a tribute with Brian Johnston as new vocalist.
2. Who released "Climbing" in March 1970?

Answer: Mountain

I guess the clue was in the title. This was the first studio album from the four piece band Mountain, one of my favourite hard rock bands of the early '70s. The album featured two of their best known tracks, "Theme From An Imaginary Western" written by Jack Bruce of Cream and "Mississippi Queen", a real rock classic penned by the whole band.
3. Which rockers said "Diver Down" in 1982, their fifth studio album?

Answer: Van Halen

The LP came complete with the USA version of the "I have divers down, keep clear and at slow speed" flag. It contained three cover versions, The Kinks' "Where Have All The Good Times Gone", Martha Reeves' "Dancing In The Streets" and the cover version of Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman".
4. Whose album came out "Fighting"?

Answer: Thin Lizzy

"Fighting" was released in 1975 containing a Lizzy classic "Rosalie", a cover from Bob Seger. This was the second Thin Lizzy album with the "classic" twin lead guitar lineup.
5. Back in '73 which act released an album called "Back In '72"?

Answer: Bob Seger

This is the album that introduced us to "Rosalie", the song that Thin Lizzy covered. Bob Seger from Detroit released his first album "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" in 1969 and is still producing great music, his last offering was "Ride Out" in 2014. Bob is definitely on of my favourite artists.
6. "Dark Side Of The Moon" was a 1972 offering by which band? It's not Pink Floyd, their album of the same name, came along in 1973.

Answer: Medicine Head

My apologies for attempting to trick you. "Dark Side Of The Moon" was released in 1972 a year before the Pink Floyd album of the same name. Had the Medicine Head album been a commercial success David Gilmour once told me that the Pink Floyd album would have been released as "Eclipse".
7. Who tempted us with "The Last Temptation" in 1994?

Answer: Alice Cooper

One of Cooper's less well known releases that featured the single "Lost In America", and came with a comic book, the first in a series of 3 comics. The subject of the album is "Steven" who we met in "Welcome To My Nightmare" and "Welcome 2 My Nightmare".
8. September 1977 saw the release of "Rough Mix". Do you know who released it?

Answer: Pete Townshend And Ronnie Lane

I love this album which seemed to go under the radar of so many rock fans, many I've spoken with have never heard of it. Two giants of rock, Pete Townshend of The Who and Ronnie Lane of The Small Faces and Faces came together along with friends such as Eric Clapton.
9. Who gave us "Wheels Of Steel" in 1980?

Answer: Saxon

A barnstormer of an album that gave us "747 Strangers In The Night", "Motorcycle Man" and of course, "Wheels Of Steel". A product of Sheffield in England, Saxon are from the "NWOBHM" (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) and still touring and releasing fine metal.
10. 1971 saw the release of "Historical Figures And Ancient Heads", but what was the name of the act on the cover?

Answer: Canned Heat

This album featured a song called "Rocking With The King" a song about Little Richard that actually featured Little Richard on piano and back up vocals. It also contains "Long Way From L.A.".
11. Who tried to break our hearts with "Heartbreaker" in 1973?

Answer: Free

The 1973 release from Free which opens with that great song "Wishing Well". An English band that formed in 1968 and disbanded in 1973. Lead Singer Paul Rodgers went onto form Bad Company
12. Name the band that released "Ooh La La"?

Answer: Faces

"Ooh La La" was released by Faces in 1973, their last album. It was a terrible shame in my opinion to see their demise. What a great band featuring Ronnie Wood, now of the Rolling Stones, Kenny Jones who took over on drums in The Who when Keith Moon died, and of course Rod Stewart. (There is no "THE" in the name of the band, they were simply called "Faces".)
13. Which band was a "10 Yr. Overnight Success" in 1976?

Answer: Black Oak Arkansas

I guess the blokes who named their band after their home town Black Oak felt they had been knocking on fame's door long enough to qualify for the album title. Previously they had been known as The Knowbody Else. I wonder why they insisted on "Yr." and not "Year"?
14. Which one of a kind artist released "Tomorrow Belongs To Me" in 1975?

Answer: The Sensational Alex Harvey Band

This was as good as Scottish hard rock could get in 1975. The title track is the same song as is sung in the film "Cabaret".
15. "All The Young Dudes" entertained us in 1973, but who released the album?

Answer: Mott The Hoople

"All The Young Dudes" is a great song by Mott The Hoople which David Bowie gave them to help them along, and help it did. Also featured on the album is the excellent "Sweet Jane", a cover of the Lou Reed song and "One Of The Boys", a great anthem by the band themselves.
Hopefully that was an easy question to end on.
