Derek And The Dominos were something of a supergroup formed by Eric Clapton in 1970. Their one (double) LP was "Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs". The song is a dedication to Patti Boyd who was at the time Mrs. George Harrison, later becoming Mrs. Eric Clapton.

Answer: Sue

"A Boy Named Sue" was a huge hit for Johnny Cash. It was recorded live at San Quentin State Prison in 1969. It tells of a man named "Sue" by his father with a view to toughening him up. Indeed he did grow up tough and mean.
3. Bob Dylan, Thin Lizzy, Starship and Fleetwood Mac wrote songs about ladies with this name; can you remember what her name was?

Answer: Sara

"Sara" was a song title taken by Bob Dylan (1976), Starship (1985) and Fleetwood Mac (1979). When he wrote about his daughter for Thin Lizzy, Phillip Lynott added an "H", "Sarah". Sarah is originally a Hebrew name meaning "princess".

"Lady Jane" released in 1966 and "Sweet Jane" from 1970 are classics. Rod Stewart's "Baby Jane " was released in 1983. There's nothing "plain" about these songs. Especially recommended is the Lou Reed version of "Sweet Jane" from his live album "Rock 'N' Roll Animal" released in 1974. The guitar introduction features Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter later of The Alice Cooper Band.

From the 1977 album "Let There Be Rock" comes "Whole Lotta Rosie". A hugely popular number which when played live in concert is usually accompanied by some huge inflatable ladies. It was written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Bon Scott. Bon Scott died in 1980 and Malcolm Young quit the band he founded for health reasons in 2014.
6. This instrumental piece from the Allman Brothers Band is "Top Gear", so who is the lady in question?

Released in 1973 from the album "Brothers And Sisters", "Jessica" was also the theme music to the globally popular BBC motoring TV show "Top Gear". In 2006 the Wall Street Journal described the tune as "A true national heirloom". Dicky Betts who wrote the tune named it after his daughter, he felt the tune captured her "bouncy attitude" as a baby.

"Janie's Got A Gun" was a 1989 release from the "Pump" album. The song of a girl desperate to escape abuse. It was originally intended to be called "Danny's Got A Gun" after a friend of Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler. It was their first number one hit in Australia, whilst hitting number four in the "Billboard" chart.

Creedence Clearwater Revival released "Proud Mary" in 1969, an all American classic written by John Fogerty which was also a big hit for Ike And Tina Turner in 1971. The lyric "Pumped a lot of pane down in New Orleans" refers to propane gas. In 1988 Creedence Clearwater Revival released a compilation album entitled "Rollin' On The River" taking the lyric from "Proud Mary" which was featured as track one.

From the 1973 "Hello" LP Status Quo gave us "Caroline". It was supposed to have been written on a napkin in a restaurant. It gave Status Quo their first top five hit and a sure fire winner for live shows. Originally formed in 1962, they found their way to a psychedelic rock sound. Status Quo made the big time in the UK about ten years later when they adopted a heavy, hard rocking style.
10. Who was the "star crossed lover" that Dire Straits sang about in 1980?

Answer: Juliet

From the 1980 "Making Movies" album came "Romeo And Juliet". The song is about a couple who break up, but he will always love her. Thankfully nobody dies as in the William Shakespeare story. Formed in 1977, Dire Straits have spent over 1100 weeks in the UK album chart according to the "Guinness Book Of Hit Albums", ranking fifth all time.

They split in 1995 when guitarist and founder Mark Knopfler went solo.
