Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sinead O'Connor sang "Nothing Compares", but what was the official spelling of the remainder of that song title?

Answer: 2 U

Some might say her abbreviation was ahead of its time, coming before the popular use of SMS text messages, internet chats and twitter. "Nothing Compares 2 U" charted at number three on the US Billboard list in 1990, behind Roxette's "It Must Have Been Love" (number two) and Wilson Phillips' "Hold On" (number one).
2. Extreme released a popular ballad in 1991 called "More Than _____"?

Answer: Words

While "More Than Words" was their biggest success, Extreme had been around since the mid 1980s and were well known in their home state of Massachusetts. They also had a lesser-known song, "Play With Me", appear on the soundtrack to the movie "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure".
3. Boyz II Men had three charting hits on the US Billboard top 100 in 1992. Their biggest success came from a song titled "End of the ____"?

Answer: Road

"End of the Road" broke Elvis' longstanding US Billboard record by featuring for 13 consecutive weeks at number one. Whitney Houston's cover of "I Will Always Love You" was also a big hit in 1992 (and into 1993), spending over ten weeks at number one in charts across the US, UK and Australia.
4. Soul Asylum released a song titled "Runaway Train".

Answer: True

Not to be confused with the 1988 country hit from Roseanne Cash. The memorable video released alongside the song "Runaway Train" showed images of abused and missing children (a separate version was also released in the UK), emphasising the message within its powerful lyrics.
5. The Four Seasons hit the charts with "December 1963". What was the rest of its title?

Answer: Oh What a Night

This 1993 remix was in fact the third official release of this song from the Four Seasons. Originally released in 1975, it spent 27 weeks in the Billboard top 100 charts that year. Coincidentally, the 1993 release spent the same amount of time. According to one of the song's authors, the song was originally going to be about December in 1933, before a decision was made to make it a bit more contemporary.
6. What did Hootie and the Blowfish suggest we "Let Her" do in their hit single?

Answer: Cry

This was one of the band's four successful hits from their debut mainstream album "Cracked Rear View", which went on to be the best-selling US album of 1995.
7. While not her most famous single, Mariah Carey continued her success in 1996 with a song called "Always Be My ____"?

Answer: Baby

Carey well and truly established her career in the 1990s with releases of the albums "Emotions" and "Music Box" earning her huge record sales. With over 200 million albums sold, she was the world's best-selling artist of the 1990s, and one of the biggest in history.
8. Third Eye Blind released a song called "Semi-Charmed Existence".

Answer: False

"Semi-Charmed Life" appeared on Third Eye Blind's debut self-titled album and reached number four of the top 100 US Billboard charts. Following this, the band has seen several changes of members and has not reached the same level of success.
9. Chumbawamba, a British alternative band, released the big hit called "Tub_____"?

Answer: Thumping

"Tubthumping" was the only US Billboard hit for this band that formed in 1982 and decided to break up in 2012. Throughout its 30 year existence, Chumbawamba played a variety of music ranging from punk, pop and even folk.
10. Which flower is also the single-word title of a Goo Goo Dolls hit?

Answer: Iris

"Iris" was originally written by the band for the movie "City of Angels", but they later decided to include it on their 1998 "Dizzy Up the Girl" album. "Iris" is often cited as an example of a successful cross-over hit because of its substantial air-play received across rock, pop and adult contemporary formats.
