Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Still Crazy After All These Years
Answer: Paul Simon
The song was the title track from the solo album released by Paul in 1975. It also included the song '50 Ways to Leave your Lover', which gave Paul a number one hit on the US Billboard Hot 100. 'Still Crazy After All These Years', the album, also hit the top of the album charts.
2. She Drives Me Crazy
Answer: Fine Young Cannibals
Released in 1989, 'She Drives Me Crazy' was a number five hit on the UK Singles Chart, but did even better in the USA, reaching the top spot on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song came from the album 'The Raw and the Cooked', which was also a big success, but was the final album released by the band, who broke up in 1992.
3. Crazy
Answer: Gnarls Barkley
I'm sure some of you were looking for Patsy Cline, but this 'Crazy' is the huge 2006 hit for the duo of CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse. Their mothers know them better as Thomas Callaway and Brian Burton. Although the duo have indicated that they intend to record together again, both have been busy with solo projects since 2010, so who knows when, or if, it will happen.
4. The Closest Thing to Crazy
Answer: Katie Melua
The song became Katie's first hit, in 2003, when it reached number ten on the UK Singles Chart. The song was written, and first recorded, by Mike Batt, who might be better known to UK players as the creator of The Wombles band. Batt came across Katie while she was still studying music, and acted as the producer of several of her albums.
5. Girl Crazy
Answer: Hot Chocolate
With lead singer Erroll Brown, the band had numerous hits in the UK throughout the 1970s and 1980s. They had some success in the USA too, with 'You Sexy Thing' (1975) and 'Every 1's a Winner' (1978) being particularly popular on the other side of the Atlantic. 'Girl Crazy' was released in 1982 and reached number seven on the UK Singles Chart.
6. Crazy For You
Answer: Madonna
'Crazy For You' was one of Madonna's earlier hits, dating from 1985 when it first appeared on her album 'Vision Quest'. As a single, it followed 'Like A Virgin' and 'Material Girl'. The 'Queen of Pop' is still recording and hitting the charts well into the twenty-first century.
7. Let's Go Crazy
Answer: Prince
Dating from 1984, 'Let's Go Crazy' first appeared on the album 'Purple Rain'. The single reached the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 and number seven on the UK Singles Chart - another hit in the long list of successes for the singer once known as a symbol.
8. Crazy in Love
Answer: Beyoncé
Having tasted success as a member of Destiny's Child, Beyoncé began her solo career in 2003 with the album 'Dangerously in Love'. 'Crazy in Love' came from the album and featured Jay-Z, who became her husband in 2008. 'Crazy in Love' became a huge worldwide hit, reaching number one in both the UK and USA, the first of numerous successes for Beyoncé.
9. Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Answer: Pink Floyd
Possibly the most obscure recording in the quiz, 'Shine on you Crazy Diamond' appeared on the 1975 album 'Wish You Were Here'. The piece of music has several parts, with parts I-V, as they are styled, lasting thirteen and a half minutes and parts VI-IX lasting twelve and a half minutes.
It was written in recognition of the band's original singer, Syd Barrett, who had left the group in 1968 and was replaced by Dave Gilmour.
10. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Answer: Queen
The song was written by Freddie Mercury, and included on the 1980 album 'The Game', which also included 'Another One Bites the Dust', a John Deacon composition. 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' was released as a single in 1979 and gave Queen their first number one hit on the US Billboard Hot 100. 'Bohemian Rhapsody', from 1975, managed only number nine on the same charts in the USA despite being a massive number one hit in many other countries.
