Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What song from one of the ex-Beatles' early solo albums contains the following lyrics? "People say we got it made Don't they know we're so afraid"

Answer: Isolation

Rolling Stone ranked John Lennon's "Plastic Ono Band" (1970) number 22 of the 500 greatest albums of all time. "Isolation" is a slow, bluesy number employing the same chord progression John would use ten years later in "Starting Over".
2. At a time when Paul McCartney was under fire for producing, well, silly love songs, he churned out this nifty little rock & roll number reminiscent of an early Elvis tune. It's an obscure song from one of his late 70s LP's. What is the title? "Our love affair was over on the second day You packed a bag and like a birdie flew away"

Answer: Name And Address

"Name and Address" is a breath of fresh air amidst the sappy pop of such songs as "With a Little Luck". It appears on Paul's 1978 "London Town" LP.
3. This was the title song of one of the ex-Beatles solo albums. What is the title? "Felt like a bohunk but I kept up my cool, ah-hah-hah, Green as a frog, man, I was back into school, ah-hah-hah Zipped up my mouth 'cause I was starting to drool, ah-hah-hah"

Answer: (It's All Da-Da-Down To) Goodnight Vienna

Ringo's self-titled 1973 LP, produced by Richard Perry, was a huge hit and produced two hits for the vocally challenged Beatle. His next LP, released a year later and also produced by Perry, tried to recapture the magic. Not as popular as "Ringo", "Goodnight Vienna" still has some terrific moments--especially in the title song penned by Ringo's biggest fan, John Lennon.
4. This song is the first track on an ex-Beatles solo LP released in the early 70s. What is the name of the song? "That was your last mistake, I find my love awake and waiting to be. Now what can be done for you? She's waiting for me"

Answer: Too Many People

"Too Many People" opens Paul (and Linda's) 1971 "Ram". The LP received a drubbing from critics when it first came out. Listen to it again. It's a blast and the opening number rocks. Paul performed it on his 2005 tour.
5. John, Paul, George and Ringo all wrote songs about the Beatle years. This is one of those songs. What is its title? "You've been stood around for years Seen my smiles and touched my tears How it's been a long, long time And how you've been on my mind"

Answer: Apple Scruffs

From George Harrison's masterful "All Things Must Pass" LP, "Apple Scruffs" is a love song to the Beatles' groupies.
"In the fog and in the rain
Through the pleasures and the pain
On the step outside you stand
With your flowers in your hand, my Apple Scruffs"
6. Paul McCartney opened his 1990 tour with this song. What is the title? "Is Is Better To Love Another Than To Go Go For A Walk In The Dark? Is It Better To Love Than To Give In To Hate?"

Answer: Figure of Eight

By 1989, the rancor that had driven the Beatles apart was fading. Within a few years, George, Ringo and Paul would be back together recording "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" over the vocals of their fallen comrade, John Lennon. "Figure of Eight" by Paul from "Flowers in the Dirt" recalls the message that permeates so much of the Beatles' work. All you need is love...the word is love...the love you make is equal to the love you take
7. This is from one of John Lennon's numerous love songs to Yoko. Which one? "Even if it's just one night, I miss you and it don't feel right, I wish you were here tonight"

Answer: Dear Yoko

"Dear Yoko" from the "Double Fantasy" album, has a sense of humor. Listen carefully to the fade out--John rattles on comically--"The next time you're in town, don't sell a cow".
8. This John Lennon song can be heard on the soundtrack of the film "Children of Men". What is its title? "Well you were caught with your hands in the kill And you still got to swallow your pill As you slip and you slide down the hill On the blood of the people you killed"

Answer: Bring On The Lucie (Freda Peeple)

"Bring On The Lucie (Freda Peeple)" is from John's "Mind Games" LP. His previous LP was the fiercely political "Some Time in New York City"; judging from this song, he hadn't quite gotten politics out of his system. His next album, "Walls and Bridges" was a bit more introspective and personal.
9. More than one ex-Beatle played on this 1981 release. What is the name of the song? "Deep in the darkest night I send out a prayer to you Now in the world of light Where the spirit free of the lies And all else that we despised."

Answer: All Those Years Ago

Released shortly after John Lennon's death, "All Those Years Ago" was George Harrison's tribute to his fallen friend. Ringo and Paul both contributed to the song, although the three of them were never in the same studio at the same time. George Martin produced and even Linda McCartney sang back-up vocals.
10. This song is one of the Beatles singing about the other three. What is the song? "And when I go to town I wanna see all three"

Answer: Early 1970

"Early 1970" was the flipside to Ringo's hit single "It Don't Come Easy". This is perhaps the most endearing of the songs in that micro-genre "Songs by the ex-Beatles about what it was like to be a Beatle".
