1. Who sang "Lyin' Eyes"?

Answer: Eagles

"Lyin' Eyes" was the second Eagles single to chart in Britain, reaching number 23 in 1975. Eagles had seven top-ten albums in Britain but only one top-ten single; "Hotel California".
There are two species of eagle breeding in Britain; the golden eagle and the re-introduced sea eagle.
2. Which of these bands sang "Happy Hour"?

Answer: The Housemartins

"Happy Hour" was the first top-ten success for The Housemartins, reaching number three in 1986.
House martins are summer visitors to Britain; they nest under eaves etc and make their nests almost entirely of dried mud.
3. Which band had a hit with "Mr Jones"?

Answer: Counting Crows

Counting Crows never recorded a top-ten hit in Britain. "Mr Jones" was their most successful single reaching number 28 in 1994.
In Britain we count magpies not crows; "One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl..." etc.

Answer: The Partridge Family

"I Think I Love You" was a number eighteen hit for The Partridge Family in 1971. The TV show and their subsequent musical successes were largely responsible for inflicting David Cassidy onto an unsuspecting world!
Partridges are a family of ground-nesting game birds.

Answer: Lieutenant Pigeon

By some considerable margin this is the worst 'song' in this quiz. Did you buy it? I didn't but somebody must have; it went to number one in 1972. It doesn't say much for what else was about at the time!
Pigeons are a large family of birds found in a variety of habitats.
6. Which group had a 'seventies hit with "Backstabbers"?

Answer: The O'Jays

The O'Jays scored their first UK hit with "Backstabbers" back in 1972; it got to number fourteen.
Jays are colourful members of the crow family.
7. "There goes the Fear" was a 2002 top-ten success for which act?

Answer: Doves

Doves biggest successes have been with albums; two have reached number one.
The terms doves and pigeons are largely interchangeable but generally speaking pigeon refers to the larger species and dove to the smaller.
8. Which of these bands had a 2006 single success with "Train to Brazil"?

Answer: Guillemots

Formed in 2004 in Bromsgrove near Birmingham UK, Guillemots are a young band; having first found success on the local scene, they came to national prominence supporting Rufus Wainwright on his 2005 tour of Britain. "Train to Brazil" was a top forty success for the lads.
Guillemots are members of the auk family, they are cliff-nesting birds; they live almost exclusively on small fish.

Answer: The Sandpipers

Sandpipers are a family of small wading birds usually found on the coast.
10. Which of these bands sang the unforgettable "Saturday Night (Beneath the Plastic Palm Trees)"?

Answer: The Leyton Buzzards

The Leyton Buzzards were from London. Their name was a take on the Bedfordshire town of Leighton Buzzard. This was their only hit, reaching number 53 in 1979.
Keen football fans might recognise the other three names as being not just bird but also soccer references.
