5. Cher (sans Sonny) had this mysterious hit in 1974. "Fortunate"-ly for her the song was a hit. What tune was it?

Answer: Dark Lady

Cher recorded all these songs, but it was "Dark Lady", the tale of a visit to fortune teller and the eventual conclusion that her man was cheating on her that propelled Cher to the top of the charts for one week during the spring of 1974. The song came off an album of the same name, and it was Cher's last number one hit as a solo artist until "Believe" hit the top of the charts in 1999, some 25 years later. "Dark Lady" was also a number one hit in Canada and Sweden as well.
6. A Scottish funk band with a colorful name had to come all the way across the Atlantic to come up with a number one hit. This instrumental topped the charts in 1975. If you know the band, you'll know the song. Name the song.

Answer: Pick Up The Pieces

The Average White Band recorded "Pick Up The Pieces' after moving to New York from their native Scotland in 1974. The song was a posthumous hit for one of its band members, Robbie McIntosh, who died of a heroin overdose in September of 1974, about three months after the song, part of the album called "AWB" was released in the U.K. with little fanfare.

The song took hold in the U.S. and reached the number one spot for one week in the winter of 1975. It is essentially an instrumental piece, with shouts of "Pick Up The Pieces" scattered throughout the tune.
7. Rhythm Heritage was an instrumental group that had a number one hit as a theme song from a popular police television show of the 1970s. Name the show and you'll have the song.

Answer: S.W.A.T.

"The Theme From S.W.A.T." was the one that went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for The Rhythm Heritage for one week in the winter of 1976. The group was considered a disco-funk band and also recorded music for the "Baretta" series. This song was their only number one single.
8. The Eagles song "New Kid In Town" was a number one song in 1977. Coincidentally, who was the new kid in town, who made his first appearance with the group on this album?

Answer: Joe Walsh

Walsh had just replaced Bernie Leadon who left the group in 1976. Walsh came on just in time, as the "Hotel California" album became the most successful album in the group's career.

10. Which disco diva took Eddie Floyd's 1966 soul hit called "Knock on Wood" and turned it into a number one hit in 1979?

Answer: Amii Stewart

The original hit, by Eddie Floyd, made it as only as high as number 28 on the Billboard charts in 1966. It took disco to bring this song back to the forefront, and Amii Stewart took full advantage, going all the way to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for a one week stay in April 1979.

It was Stewart's biggest success in the U.S. although she did have some continued success in Europe, most notably in Italy and the U.K. throughout the 1980s.
