Answer: Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

Brian Hyland was only 16 years old when he took this song which told of a young lady who was afraid to come out of the water because of a very skimpy bikini she was wearing, to the top of the charts in August 1960 for a one week stay, as well as a number eight placing in the U.K. selling over two million copies in the process.

The song was written by Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss of Brill Building fame.
2. Ricky Nelson had a chart topping hit in 1961 with this worldly tune. Can you name it?

Answer: Travelin' Man

Ricky Nelson was a major television star and teen heartthrob of the late 1950s and early 1960s due to his success on "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet". He turned this notoriety into a successful music career beginning in 1957. The song here "Travelin' Man" made the top of the charts in the spring of 1961, was displaced after one week, and then regained the top spot again one week later.

The lyrics describe a guy who travels around the world and has a girl in every port so to speak. He mentions a 'pretty senorita" from Mexico, a "china doll" from Hong Kong and a "fraulein" from Berlin among others.

Mr. Acker Bilk as he is known wrote this piece for his daughter Jenny, and it soared to the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts in the spring of 1962. The song was originally titled "Jenny". U.S. charts. It ended up being Billboard's number one song of the year in 1962. Other British acts would follow, but Bilk still holds the distinction of being one of the first.

Answer: It's My Party

Lesley Gore grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey and burst onto the music scene as a teenager in 1963 with this song which went to number one for a two week stay in June 1963. This song was the first single produced by someone who would over time become legendary in the music industry, one Quincy Jones. Gore is one of the most recognizable female singers of the 60s.

She has had hits with other notable tunes such as the follow up to "It's My Party", called "Judy's Turn To Cry" as well as "You Don't Own Me", "That's The Way Boys Are" and She's a Fool".

Answer: I Get Around

Written by band members Brian Wilson and Mike Love, "I Get Around" went to number one in the summer of 1964 for a two week stay, bucking the strong British slant to the U.S. music charts at the time. Surprisingly, this was the Beach Boys first number one tune.

The song, which was part of their "All Summer Long" album, also did well in the U.K. reaching number seven there, marking the first time the boys had cracked the Top 10 on the U.K. charts. The B-side, called "Don't Worry Baby" also hit the charts in the U.S. with a number 24 placing.
6. What game were Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders playing in 1965?

Answer: Game of Love

Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders were formed in 1962 in England, and recorded with little success until a song called "Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um (well thought out title) reached number five on the U.K. charts in 1964. Their follow up "Game of Love" became a number two hit in the U.K and went to number one on the U.S. Billboard charts for one week in 1965 as part of the slew of British tunes dominating the U.S. charts at the time.

It was the only chart success in the U.S. for the group as constituted, although The Mindbenders without Fontana had a subsequent hit called "Groovy Kind of Love" later that year.
7. The Mamas and The Papas successfully followed up "California Dreamin'" with this 1966 number one tune. Which of their tunes was it?

Answer: Monday Monday

"Monday Monday" was written by band member John Phillips and was released in 1966 as a follow up to their first national hit in the U.S. called "California Dreamin'". Prior to this, they had released "Go Where You Wanna Go", but that record never made the charts. "Monday Monday" was the third song off the album called "If You Can Believe You Eyes and Your Ears".

The song went to number one on the U.S. Billboard charts for a three week stay in May of 1966.
8. The "Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin was the first person to chart with "Respect", in 1967.

Answer: False

Actually the song charted in 1965 when released by its composer, Otis Redding. It reached number one on the Black Singles charts, and number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Aretha did a little better with her revised rendition in 1967. She spent two weeks at the top of the Billboard charts that year. "R E S P E C T, find out what that means to me" became an anthem for women everywhere, and the song remains one of the most well known songs ever.

The song won two Grammys for Franklin and is listed on Rolling Stone Magazine's compilation of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" at number five!
9. The original version of "Grazing in the Grass" became a number one tune for Hugh Masekela in 1968.

Answer: True

It was Hugh Masekela, a trumpeter from South Africa who first hit the top of the charts with "Grazing in the Grass" in 1968, as one of the few instrumental songs to hit the top of the U.S. Billboard charts. It stayed number one for two weeks in the summer that year. The next year, 1969, the song reached the top ten again as a cover with vocals by The Friends of Distinction.
10. Summer 1969 produced this mega hit by The Rolling Stones. 'Gimme' the name please.

Answer: Honky Tonk Women

The song was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and originally was supposed to have a country feel to it. It did ok as it was though. It spent four weeks on the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts in the summer of 1969. An alternate version called "Country Honk", which was truer to the original concept, was included on the album "Let It Bleed". The more popular version is listed on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" at number 116.
