Janis Lyn (Pearl} Joplin died of a heroin overdose in October 1970 to become another member of the demoralising "27 Club" which already had too many members. Her number one hit "Me and Bobby McGee" became the second top posthumous Billboard Hot 100 hit in Chart history to be released behind "(Sittin'On} The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding.

Her album "Pearl" was also released after her death. On their "People Like Us" album the following year, the Mamas and the Papas paid her a tribute by adding a song "Pearl" to it.

She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the US Postal Service honoured her with a commemorative stamp for music icons.

George Harrison began writing "My Sweet Lord" as a tribute to the Hindu God Krishna in Copenhagen around 1969 before The Beatles officially broke up. This turned out to be a lead-up to his colossal triple album "All Things Must Pass". While a member of the Beatles he showed great talent in writing hits such as "Taxman", "Here Comes The Sun", "Something" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".One of his best was "All Those Years Ago" which he wrote to honour his great friend John Lennon who was murdered in December 1980. In the mid 1970s John Denver scooped the pool with Emmy and Grammy Awards, and credits from The Academy of Country Music, The American Country Awards and the Country Music Association. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1996. Sadly though, Henry John Deutschendorf Jr (Denver) died in an aircraft accident on October 12 1997 when performing solo manoeuvers in a light aircraft.

He was 53 years old. However his four number one Billboard hits, namely "Sunshine On My Shoulders", "Annie's Song", "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" and "I'm Sorry" will live on.

Tony Meehan first struck fame with The Shadows who were famous in their own right and also well known as the backing group for Britain's top singer Cliff Richard. Then he reunited with former Shadows guitarist Jet Harris and produced the major number one hit "Diamonds" on the UK charts (coincidentally with Decca)in 1963.

Other chart hits of theirs were the instrumentals "Scarlet O'Hara" and "Applejack". Daniel Joseph Anthony (Tony) Meehan passed away on the 28th November 2005 aged 62, as the result of a fall down a main staircase at his London flat.
