Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Randy Rhoads was the phenomenal guitar player who came into the public eye in 1980 as a member of whose band?

Answer: Ozzy Osbourne

He performed on the 'Blizzard of Ozz' and 'Diary of a Madman' albums before dying in 1982 in a plane crash. This loss to the rock and roll world was as big as almost any other in history, to me at least.
2. What band was the Ozzy in, before he went solo?

Answer: Black Sabbath

Ozzy, along with Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and Tony Iommi, formed the band in the late 60s. Most people would testify that they were among the founding fathers of Heavy Metal, yet the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame still hasn't recognized this fact (as of 2005).
3. What singer joined Black Sabbath, right after the original singer was gone?

Answer: Ronnie James Dio

Dio fit in perfectly with Black Sabbath's 'dark' musical persona. He was on 'Heaven and Hell', and 'Mob Rules'- two of the best Black Sabbath albums ever, in my opinion.
4. What band was Dio with immediately before Black Sabbath?

Answer: Rainbow

Dio was in Elf before joining Rainbow. With Rainbow, he helped create some great tunes including 'Man on the Silver Mountain', 'Kill the King', 'Gates of Babylon', 'Long Live Rock and Roll', and others!
5. Who was the lead guitar player in Rainbow?

Answer: Ritchie Blackmore

Blackmore founded the band. Talented and moody. I saw him in concert once and he performed almost half the show either fiddling with his amp with his back to the audience or talking with a technician at the side of the stage, apparently unsatisfied with his sound.
6. The lead guitar player from Rainbow originally earned fame in what famous band?

Answer: Deep Purple

Deep Purple was a huge band in the mid 70s, with tunes like 'Smoke on the Water', 'My Woman from Tokyo', 'Space Truckin', and more. Other great musicians included Ian Paice on drums, Jon Lord on keys, and....
7. The lead singer for Deep Purple was Ian Gillan. Who replaced him upon his departure from that band?

Answer: David Coverdale

Coverdale had a couple of his tunes included on the 'Deepest Purple' greatest hits album - 'Burn', and 'Stormbringer' - both pretty cool tunes. Johnson succeeded Bon Scott in AC-DC.
8. After leaving 'Purple', David Coverdale formed what band in the mid 70's?

Answer: Whitesnake

Whitesnake had a few decent albums before hitting it really big with the tune 'Here I Go Again.'
9. Whitesnake eventually had a bass player named Rudy Sarzo. Before that, Rudy played with Ozzy Osbourne. What Los Angeles metal band was Rudy with before that?

Answer: Quiet Riot

Quiet Riot enjoyed commercial success with tunes 'Cum On Feel the Noize', and 'Metal Health', before singer Kevin (The Mouth) Dubrow's ego started to drive the band into oblivion.
10. Who was the ORIGINAL lead guitar player for Quiet Riot?

Answer: Randy Rhoads

Right back where we started with question number 1! After Randy left to join Ozzy, Carlos Cavazo became the guitar player, playing on those hit Quiet Riot tunes. If you knew all these without cheating, you're either a big hard rock musician fan like me, or have too much dang time on your hands!
