Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who produced "Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols"?

Answer: Chris Thomas

It was to be their only studio album. Several shops refused to stock it because of the meaning of the word bollocks (look it up!) in the UK.
2. What was the album that contained interviews only rather than music and was released after the band split up?

Answer: Some Product: Carri on Sex Pistols

Contains some controversial interviews conducted in the UK and the USA. NB the spelling mistake on Carri was deliberate and relates to the "Carry on..." series of UK films.
3. In the summer of 1979, which well known established punk/new wave singer did Paul Cook and Steve Jones briefly work with?

Answer: Jimmy Pursey

After Sham 69 split up Jimmy and Dave Treganna worked with the ex-Pistols. Bootlegs came out later but nothing was ever officially released by the proposed name for the band: The Sham Pistols.
4. What was the title of the second single released, in the UK, by The Professionals for whom Steve Jones was the singer/guitarist and Paul Cook the drummer?

Answer: 1-2-3

The first single was "Just Another Dream". The third was "Join the Professionals". None scored a UK hit for the band.
5. In "The Great Rock n Roll Swindle" film there is a clip of Johnny Rotten and Steve Jones being interviewed inside a venue before a gig while carol singers protest outside. Where in Wales was this venue?

Answer: Caerphilly

One of the few dates to survive this largely aborted 1976 tour. The fury related to an infamous bout of swearing from the band on live UK-wide TV. It made headlines the next day in the UK tabloids. Funnily enough, the band were only put on because fellow EMI signed band Queen couldn't make the slot! Thank you Freddie!
6. After the band split, in early 1978, what country did John Lydon go to soon after, largely to immerse himself in one of his favourite music styles?

Answer: Jamaica

For the reggae! Richard Branson, the boss of Virgin records, arranged the trip. Branson signed the band Lydon went on to form: Public Image Ltd.
7. The band infamously signed one of their UK record contracts outside Buckingham Palace. Which one?

Answer: A&M

A&M was their second label but the band never got to release anything through them before they were fired. This was because the song they planned to release, "God Save the Queen" referred to the monarch as a moron. Copies on A&M were pressed and are now worth serious money.
8. Which England football (soccer) player introduced the Sex Pistols onto the stage for their first comeback gig at Finsbury Park, London in 1996?

Answer: Stuart Pearce

Pearce was a massive punk fan and the gig happened on 23.6.96 around the time of the Euro 96 football championships. The band jumped through a backdrop depicting a famous UK tabloid front page referring to them: "The Filth and the Fury". This was in relation to their swearing episode on live UK-wide TV.
9. During the furore around the UK release of the single "God Save the Queen", around the Silver Jubilee of the UK's monarch, where did the band perform a notorious gig?

Answer: On a boat on the River Thames

The boat was intercepted by the police. Both Malcolm McLaren (their manager)and Richard Branson (their record label boss) were arrested as soon as they got off the boat.
10. During the furore surrounding the band in the summer of 1977 there were physical attacks on some band members and those working with them. Who was attacked with iron bars at Shepherds Bush underground station?

Answer: Paul Cook (drummer)

The furore related to many incidents including swearing on tv, calling the monarch of the UK a moron and having artwork of her with a safety pin through her lips. Johnny Rotten was stabbed in the arm and Jamie Reid was also attacked on other occasions.
