I maintain 1150 songs on my iPod. My tastes are very eclectic, but I always "shuffle" knowing that the song that comes up will be one I like. This quiz is about ten random songs on my iPod, mostly country but I included a few pop songs too. Enjoy!

Answer: Faron Young

Don Gibson wrote "Sweet Dreams" and recorded it himself. But it was Faron's version that first introduced it to country fans. Patsy Cline's beautiful rendition would come along about five years after Faron's.
2. In one of Ronnie Milsap's hits, he says he is a "Prisoner" of something. What?

Answer: The Highway

"Prisoner of the Highway" was written by former NFL player Mike Reid, who had a few country hits of his own. Ir was a Top Ten Country hit for Ronnie in 1994, but it was the flip side that cracked the Hot 100 Pop Charts. "She Loves My Car" had a New Wave feel to it.
3. The next random song on my iPod is "Goodbye Little Darling" by Johnny Cash. It was recorded and released on Cash's first record label. What label was it?

Answer: Sun Records

"Goodbye Little Darling" was co-written by Gene Autry and Johnny Marvin. Cash was backed by The Tennessee Two (Marshall Grant and Luther Perkins), as he was on most of his early recordings. Cash was one of several Sun artists who went on to superstar careers.

Don Gibson's songs have been recorded by such diverse artists as Ray Charles, Patsy Cline and The Kentucky Headhunters. Roy Orbison devoted an entire album to Don's songs titled, what else, "Roy Orbison Sings Don Gibson".

Although Gloria's passionate performance has been embraced by women worldwide, it was actually co-written by two men: Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris. It was one of the biggest hits of 1979, reaching number one on both the Billboard and UK singles charts.

Horst Jankowski was a classically trained pianist from Germany. He found his niche, though, composing jazz and pop music.

Six singles were released from "Common Thread", but it was Travis Tritt's rendition of "Take It Easy" that was the most successful, reaching number 21 on the Billboard Country Charts. "Common Thread" was voted Album of the Year in 1994 by the Country Music Association. Some of the other artists on the album were Little Texas, Diamond Rio, Trisha Yearwood and Vince Gill.

Manilow was Barry's mother's maiden name. Barry's first musical successes were as a commercial jingle writer for companies like State Farm and McDonald's and his live concerts usually include a medley of those jingles.

His cousins Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggart are celebrities in their own right. Gilley is a successful country artist and Swaggart is a televangelist.
