Answer: Because many of his recordings contain a recitation spoken in a soft voice.

Bill was born James William Anderson in Columbia, South Carolina. His naturally soft voice and frequent use of recitations in his recordings earned him the nickname "Whispering Bill".
2. Bill wrote his first hit "City Lights" at the age of 19. What country artist was the first of two to take the song to number one on the US Country charts"

Answer: Ray Price

Mickey Gilley's version of the song also reached number one on the Country charts in 1975, 17 years after Ray Price's version. It was one of four Bill Anderson compositions named by "Billboard Magazine" in 1995 as one of the top 20 country songs of the past 35 years.

Jon Randall was in a particularly dark place when he began writing the song. He had gone through a divorce, lost his record deal and his songwriting contract. The line "put a bottle to his head and pulled the trigger" was inspired by a comment from his manager. With that hook, he met with Bill Anderson and the two finished the song.
