"Don't Fight It" appeared on Loggins' 1982 album "High Adventure" and was released as a single, reaching number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. It picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group but lost to Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger". Loggins and Perry wrote the song with master songwriter (and "Footloose" screenplay author) Dean Pitchford.

The collaboration came about when Perry's band Journey was playing a festival at which Loggins was also appearing. Loggins was impressed with Perry's voice, and when he found out the Perry was interested in working with other songwriters, they set up a writing session at Loggins' home.

Named for a 1915 truck, the band REO Speedwagon actually started out in the 1960s but had to wait until 1981 to top the US charts with "Keep on Loving You". "Can't Fight this Feeling" was their second US number one; it was also the second single released from their 1984 album "Wheels are Turnin'". Written by lead singer Kevin Cronin, the song was inspired by a mixture of his relationships and his "inability to have the courage to express myself".

Interestingly, the band's original name WAS Deaf Leopard and came from a poster that lead singer Joe Elliott created for art class. The spelling was modified to make it appear less like a punk band. Written by Elliott, Phil Collen, Steve Clark, Rick Savage, and producer Mutt Lange, "Women" was the second single released from the 1987 album "Hysteria" (although it was the first single released in the US), and it didn't fare too well, only reaching number 80 on the US Billboard charts and not charting in the UK.

It did however have an interesting video featuring a comic book skateboarder named Def Leppard who battles aliens to rescue women robots.

The power ballad appeared on Poison's second album "Open Up and Say... Ahh!" It was actually the third single released from the album after "Nothin' but a Good Time" and "Fallen Angel". Those songs reached numbers 6 and 12 respectively on the U.S. Billboard charts and didn't fare any better on other charts. "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" was inspired by a phone call lead singer Bret Michaels made to his girlfriend, but the entire band received songwriting credits.

It became the band's only number one song in the U.S. and also reached the top ten in Canada, New Zealand, and Ireland.

The song only managed to reach 13 on the U.K. charts.

Answer: Triumph

Triumph triumphed with "Magic Power", which was released off of their fifth studio album, "Allied Forces". It was the band's highest charting single in Canada and their first top ten single in the U.S. While the entire band shared songwriting credits, lead singer Rik Emmett wrote the lyrics, claiming that the song was about himself as a young boy, listening to the radio, hoping to hear his favorite song played; he just changed the gender in the song to a young girl.

Answer: Madonna

"Material Girl" was the second single released from Madonna's second studio album, "Like a Virgin" and was a top ten hit on most music charts around the world. Written by Peter Brown and Robert Rans, the lyrics emphasized the material world of the 1980s, but in the Marilyn Monroe-inspired video for the song, Madonna's character rejected the men chasing her with diamonds, instead accepting a guy who brought her wildflowers. Madonna came to dislike the "Material Girl" moniker, pointing out that she didn't write the song and that people didn't get the irony of it all.

"For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)" was the second single from AC/DC's album of the same name which was released at the end of 1981. Angus and Malcolm Young and Brian Johnson were the credited songwriters, although Angus Young claimed that he and his brother mainly developed the song.

He credited the writer Robert Graves for inspiring the title which was based on a Roman salute. The song only managed to chart in the U.S. and U.K., reaching number four on the U.S. Mainstream Rock charts, but it became a mainstay at AC/DC's concerts.

"Why Can't This Be Love" was the second song on Van Halen's seventh studio album, "5150". The album featured lead singer Sammy Hagar who had picked up his Red Rocker nickname during his solo years after being the lead singer for the band Montrose. Songwriting credits went to all four members of the band; not sure which of them gets credit for the lyric, "Only time will tell if we stand the test of time".

The song reached number three on the U.S. Billboard charts, and it helped to give the band its first number one album in the U.S.

Enrique Martín Morales aka Ricky Martin started his career as a member of the Puerto Rican pop group Menudo, but it was his song "La Copa de la Vida" which was created for the 1998 FIFA World Cup that brought him international notice, particularly when it was performed at the 1999 Grammy awards. "Livin' la Vida Loca" was the first single released off his 1999 English language album, "Ricky Martin", and it became a massive hit, topping the charts in many countries around the world.

The song was written by Draco/Robi Rosa and Desmond Child and was created at the request of Martin's manager to make a song that mixed Spanish and English.

NSYNC or 'N Sync were a boy band formed in 1995 and featured Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, and former "Mickey Mouse Club" members Justin Timberlake and JC Chavez. Although an American group, their career and first album were actually launched in Germany. But it was their 2000 album "No Strings Attached" that secured their status as a major act of the early 21st century. The songwriters for "Bye Bye Bye" were Kristian Lundin, Jake Schulze, and Andreas Carlsson, and the song was actually originally intended for the British boy band 5ive.
