Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sly and The Family Stone scored big with this song of gratitude, but some of the spelling in the title was a bit quirky. What was it?

Answer: Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)

Formed in 1966 the original Sly and The Family Stone broke up in 1975 after several commercially successful hits, but Sly Stone continued to record, tour and use the name "Sly and The Family Stone" well into the mid-80s until his drug abuse effectively forced him into retirement.

The group was ranked number 43 in Rolling Stone's list of "The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time", published in 2010.
2. "Thanks For The Memory" was the theme song of what legendary comedian?

Answer: Bob Hope

Bob Hope performed "Thanks For The Memory" in the movie "The Big Broadcast of 1938" along with Shirley Ross who portrayed his ex-wife. In the movie, set aboard a cruise ship, the song helped them recall the good times as well as the bad and ultimately led to them reuniting. The song became his theme and stayed with him throughout his illustrious career.
3. Known as "The Texas Troubadour" this legendary country singer scored a country hit with a song called "Thanks A Lot". Who was he?

Answer: Ernest Tubb

After "Thanks A Lot" became a huge country hit for Ernest Tubb he had the word "Thanks" painted on the back of his guitar in large black letters and would show it at the end of his live performances! Three of Tubb's sons were also in the music business--most notably Justin Tubb who was a very successful singer/songwriter himself.
4. What French entertainer's signature song was "Thank Heaven for Little Girls"?

Answer: Maurice Chevalier

"Thank Heaven For Little Girls" was written by the legendary songwriting team of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe for the award winning movie musical "Gigi". Maurice Chevalier performed the song at the beginning and end of the film and it has been associated with him ever since. I can't help wondering if, in this age of political correctness, the song would be considered in good taste even though it's harmless!
5. What R&B legend had a hit with "Thank You Pretty Baby"?

Answer: Brook Benton

"Thank You Pretty Baby" peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Singles chart in 1959 but reached number one on the R&B chart where it remained for four weeks. It was co-written by Clyde Otis and Brook Benton himself.
6. What singer-songwriter had a hit with "Thank The Lord For The Night Time"?

Answer: Neil Diamond

"Thank The Lord For The Night Time" peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Singles chart in June, 1967. He wouldn't crack the top 20 again for another two years when "Sweet Caroline" peaked at number six. That would become his signature song and from personal experience I can say it is the penultimate piano bar sing along song!
7. What R&B duo had a hit in 1968 with "I Thank You"?

Answer: Sam and Dave

Sam Moore and David Prater were one of the most successful duos in music history. After little success with their early records they were signed by Jerry Wexler, owner of Atlantic Records who in turn loaned them to Stax Records in Memphis because they were a more R&B oriented label.

They are most remembered for "Soul Man", but "I Thank You" sold over a million copies which gave it gold status.
8. "Thank You Girl" was an early recording for which British Invasion group?

Answer: The Beatles

"Thank You Girl" was the B-side of "From Me To You". It was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. John sang the lead vocal and played rhythm guitar but came back into the studio to overdub some harmony vocals and harmonica.
9. What popular group from a European country had a hit in the 70s called "Thank You For The Music"?

Answer: ABBA

The country in question is, of course, Sweden. ABBA had a long string of hits and were the most commercially successful pop group of the decade. "Thank You For The Music" was the last single released by the group, reaching number 13 on the UK pop chart but not charting in the US.
10. What folk-country artist had listeners singing and clapping along to "Thank God I'm A Country Boy"?

Answer: John Denver

"Thank God I'm A Country Boy" was written by John Martin Sommers. The studio version was included on John Denver's album "Back Home Again" but it was the live version, from his "An Evening With John Denver" album, that topped both Billboard's Hot 100 and Hot Country Singles chart.
