Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Complete the lyric: "Sheena is a...".

Answer: Punk Rocker

"Sheena is a Punk Rocker", one of the Ramones' most famous (and catchy!) songs.
2. Who was the guitarist for the Ramones?

Answer: Johnny

Johnny Ramone played the 'buzzsaw' guitar, with only a few power chords.
3. Which Ramone was a right-wing conservative?

Answer: Johnny

Yes, Johnny the guitarist was also a Republican; the title of "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg" was changed to "My Brain is Hanging Upside Down" because of him (the song was a political statement about Ronald Reagan). He was known to be a hard worker.
4. What was Joey Ramone's real name?

Answer: Jeffrey Hyman

Brian Warner is Marilyn Manson (who did a creepy and, well, Marilyn Manson-ish cover of "The KKK Took My Baby Away", a Ramones song); Dwight is Elton John's real last name.
5. Who was the Ramones' very first drummer?

Answer: Joey

Tommy, Marky and Richie all drummed later, but Joey Ramone started out as a drummer. He wasn't very good, though, so he switched to vocals and Tommy took over drums.
6. When were the Ramones formed?

Answer: 1974

Their debut album, Ramones, was released in 1976, but the band formed in 1974-- because they were "bored with the music of the time." They weren't good enough to play covers of the Beatles or the Beach Boys or other bands they liked, so they wrote their own songs.
7. Whose early stage name did the band name come from?

Answer: Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney once went by the name "Ramon".
8. Which movie did the Ramones appear in?

Answer: Rock & Roll High School

This should have been an easy one! "The Kids are Alright" and "Tommy" are both by the Who; "Help!" is by the Beatles.
9. Who shouted out "1-2-3-4" at the beginning of most Ramones songs?

Answer: Dee Dee

Dee Dee Ramone, the bass player and background vocalist, would yell it out.
10. Which of the following songs did Dee Dee sing lead on?

Answer: Wart Hog

"Wart Hog" contains mostly the words "wart hog" and is screeched out at top speed by Dee Dee, who actually doesn't have such a bad voice, if you like that kind of thing. Dee Dee Ramone later became a rapper, Dee Dee King, and released what many think of as the worst album ever made.
11. Who sang lead for the Ramones?

Answer: Joey

Joey, of course! His trademark Queens bleat was loved by all. (Clearly it's not Dee Dee, as evidenced by the previous question...)
12. Where were the Ramones from?

Answer: New York

The Forest Hills section of Queens, New York, to be more exact. Dee Dee spent some of his childhood in Berlin, because his father was in the army, and Tommy was born in Hungary, but they lived in Queens when the band was formed.
13. Which Ramone died first?

Answer: Joey

Joey Ramone died in 2001 of lymphoma. Dee Dee died in 2002 and Johnny died in 2004; as of 2005 Tommy, Marky, CJ, Richie, and Elvis Ramone are still alive and kicking, as far as I know.
14. Which of the following shouts is specifically from "Blitzkrieg Bop"?

Answer: Hey, ho, let's go!

"Gabba gabba hey" is from "Pinhead"; "1-2-3-4" is from various songs; "Creeetin!" is the chorus of "Cretin Hop", but only the huge hit "Blitzkrieg Bop" contains the rousing line "Hey, ho, let's go!".
15. When did the Ramones split up?

Answer: 1996

In 1995 they released their last album, "Adios Amigos." Then they played a farewell tour. In early 1996 they toured with Lollapalooza and then split up, more than two decades after their formation.

Two decades of raw and beautiful punk rock. The Ramones began punk and their hilarious lyrics and simple tunes have brought joy to many generations. R.I.P. Joey, Johnny, and Dee Dee, and keep on rockin'! I hope you enjoyed this quiz.
