"Love Me Tender" recorded by Elvis Presley in 1956, is an unusual combination of new lyrics with the melody of an American Civil War ballad originally published in 1861. Elvis introduced the world to the song on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1956. The song was recorded to be used in a film of the same name which was released in November of 1956.

Although others later recorded this melody of love, the song is usually associated with Elvis and my find it to be his finest love song.
2. "I Just Want to Make Love To You" (1972)

"I Just Want to Make Love To You" has been covered by other groups, but none in this quiz. Foghat's version was released in 1972 and was their first hit song. This song can be heard in the 1993 comedy film "Dazed and Confused".
3. "When a Man Loves a Woman" (1966)

Answer: Percy Sledge

When released in 1966, "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge shot to the top of the charts. This love song was a big hit in Canada, and across the pond. This song became Percy Sledge's signature song and he continued to perform it throughout his career.

In Great Britain, the song went to the top of the charts again in the 1980's after it was introduced to a younger generation through a jeans commercial on television.
4. "Love Hurts" (1975)

This song of lost love is one of the most emotional and sad songs of its era. It was written by Boudleaux Bryant, who with his wife Felice is responsible for a whole lot of good songs. The Scottish hard rock band Nazareth recorded this love song and their rendition went on to become a world-wide hit.
5. "Whole Lotta Love" (1969)

Led Zeppelin's song "Whole Lotta Love" was a hard rock version of a love song. It was very popular all over Europe as well as the U.S. and Canada. Released in 1969, by 1970 it had already sold over a million copies. While the band released this love song as a single in numerous countries, like their other music they only released their albums in the U.K.
6. "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" (1960)

The Shirelles hold the honor of being the first all-girl band to have a song reach number one on the Billboard Top 100 chart with their 1960 hit "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" which is sometimes shortened to "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?". At the time of it's release, it was thought to be a very provocative song, and some radio stations refused to play it. What a shame.
7. "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover"

"50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" was written and recorded by singer/songwriter Paul Simon in 1975. There are thoughts that the song was inspired by Simon's recent divorce. This single was certified gold, and can be heard on classic rock radio stations around the world.
8. "Chapel of Love" (1964)

"Chapel of Love" was released in 1964 by the Dixie Cups and spent three weeks in the number one spot on the Billboard Top 100. One of the most joyous love songs of the 1960's it happily tells the story of a young bride on the way to her wedding. It anticipates a life-long love, filled with happiness.

"Hello, I Love You" by The Doors was a huge hit all over North America and Great Britain as well. The idea behind the lyrics is that these are a song in man's head when he see's a beautiful woman walk by. Of course, everyone's interpretation is unique.

"All You Need is Love" is one of the many love songs recorded by The Beatles. Written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, the song was released in 1967 and was broadcast via satellite around the world for a program called "Our World".
