The answer is Jefferson whose name is actually Geoffrey Turton. He was a British singer but, "Baby Take Me in Your Arms" didn't catch on in his homeland. It did however, catch on in the U.S. It peaked at #23 in February of 1970 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Before going by Jefferson, Geoffrey Turton was with a band called the Rockin' Berries. He was vocalist and rhythm guitarist with them in 1961.
Christie had a hit song in 1970 with "Yellow River", Derek had a hit in 1969 with "Cinnamon", and Keith had a hit in 1967 with "98.6".

Danny O'Keefe was the performer of "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues". Danny initially recorded the song back in 1967 but never released it. He did record a version of it for his 1971 self titled album, but it never became a hit of any sort.
Danny tried again on his second album. He slowed the song down this time and that was the kick it needed. "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues" peaked at number nine on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and climbed to number five on the U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. Surprisingly the song only reached number 63 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
A band named The Bards released their version of "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues" in 1968 and Leon Russell released his version in 1984.
Of the arong answers, Mac Davis was well known for the song "Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me", Arlo Guthrie was well known for his cover version of "City Of New Orleans" and the amazing song "Alice's Restaurant", and Charley Pride was well known for his biggest hit "Kiss An Angel Good Mornin'". If you're in your 50s or older you should remember the "Rumble In The Jungle". It took place on October 30, 1974 in Kinshasa (Hence the band name) which is in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was a renowned boxing match between Muhammad Ali (formerly Cassius Clay) and George Foreman. This gave Johnny Wakelin the idea to write a song about Ali who won the boxing match in the eighth round.
"Black Superman-'Muhammad Ali" also peaked at number seven on the U.K. Singles Chart and number one in Australia. Ali did not like,the song and certainly didn't approve of it.
Of the three wrong answers, Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band was known for their number one hit "Cherchez La Femme/C'est Si Bon", Rick Dees And His Cast Of Idiots were known for their novelty hit "Disco Duck (Part 1)" which reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, and Paul Humphrey And The Cool Aid Chemists who were best known for their hit "Cool Aid".

Redeye was best known for their hit song "Games" which sounded quite a bit like Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, Patrick Hernandez was known for his worldwide hit "Born to Be Alive", and Sailcat was known for their ultra cool hit "Motorcycle Mama".
