Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Heather Morris started in show business as a dancer, making appearances on the competition show "So You Think You Can Dance" and on stage with Beyonce dancing to "Single Ladies". But her big break occurred in 2009 landing a role as a cheerleader on which television show?

Answer: Glee

"Glee" was looking for a third cheerleader, and Heather was on the set teaching choreography, and so they had her deliver a couple of one-liners as a B-level character. Her comedic ability got so much good press that her role expanded to a feature character for the duration of the show until its end in 2015.
2. This Morris debuted in Major League Baseball in 1977 with the Detroit Tigers. A starting pitcher with Hall of Fame statistics, he ended up with four World Series rings with the Tigers, Minnesota Twins, and Toronto Blue Jays. Who is this baseball playing Morris?

Answer: Jack Morris

The other first names used are feature Tigers from their same 1977 rookie season, Lou Whitaker, Alan Trammell, and Lance Parrish. Jack Morris' career highlight was a Game 7 World Series decider that pitted him against John Smoltz in a pitcher's duel that went nine shutout innings and ended with Morris pitching a tenth inning of shutout baseball and vaulting the Twins to a walk-off World Series win in the bottom of the tenth inning.

He would win the Most Valuable Player Award for that World Series.
3. Classically trained at Juilliard School of Music, nobody thinks of him and says, "Oh, I love his musical work." But you would comment on his comedic ability, as he was the first African-American cast member of "Saturday Night Live". He also appeared as a regular on the comedies "The Jamie Foxx Show" and "2 Broke Girls". Who is this talented Morris?

Answer: Garrett Morris

Garrett Morris was, on a whim, featured as the musical guest a handful of times on "Saturday Night Live". He sang a Mozart aria when Walter Matthau hosted, with Matthau introducing him stating he would be singing classical "in place of the usual crap." He reprised his role as the President of the New York School for the Hard of Hearing on the 40th Anniversary special for "Saturday Night Live", where he would yell the previous words spoken by Chevy Chase. Chase was giving his appreciation on the special while Garrett was superimposed in the corner cupping his hands to his mouth and screaming what had just been said.
4. Eugene Morris made his living running with a football in the National Football League. He was a running back and kick returner for the Miami Dolphins, sharing the backfield with stars Jim Kiick and Larry Csonka. But while Morris was the name on the back of his jersey, Eugene wasn't what the fans knew him as. What mythological deity was his nickname derived from?

Answer: Mercury

Mercury Morris wasn't the predominant back for the Dolphins during their glory years of three Super Bowl appearances, but he was their main option returning kicks. He received a fifteen-year prison sentence for cocaine trafficking in 1982, one that was plea bargained to four years later on.

He is still seen in football stadiums, now as a fan rooting on his nephew Alfred Morris, who has made a fine career in the NFL as well.
5. Robert Morris was a prominent man in politics in the United States in the early years of the country. Involved in a number of items, he multi-tasked with the best of them. Which of these is NOT a claim to fame for Robert Morris?

Answer: He is one of six signers of the US Constitution born in the United States

Actually quite the opposite: Robert Morris was born in Liverpool and immigrated to to America when he was thirteen. He was one of the six signers NOT born in America. 34 of the forty signers were born on the American side of the ocean. He is however one of only two to sign the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution.

Robert Morris was also one of the original Pennsylvania senators. As Superintendent of Finance, he was considered the second most powerful American next to Washington. When he resigned, the position was turned into a committee. Robert Morris University in Pennsylvania and Robert Morris College (now RM University-Illinois) were both named after him, and neither are affiliated with each other.
6. Two Morrises for the price of one: Wanya and Nathan Morris were half of an R&B group that were known for very big hits. In the modern era, Billboard Magazine's Hot 100 has nine songs that charted thirteen weeks or more at the Number One spot. This group has had three of them, all in the 1990s. Proud of their Philadelphia, PA roots, who was this quartet with the Cooley High harmonies?

Answer: Boyz II Men

Joining Shawn Stockman and Michael McCary, Wanya and Nathan Morris's Boyz II Men hit Number One with "I'll Make Love To You", "End of the Road" and "One Sweet Day", a collaboration with Mariah Carey that spent an unmatched sixteen weeks at Number One. Combined, this trio of songs had 43 weeks in the top spot. Wanya and Nathan still tour as Boyz II Men with Stockman. McCary left the group in 2003 due to poor health.
7. Zelman Moses was a Jewish immigrant from Germany who came to America in the late 1800s. He founded a Vaudeville agency in New York City in 1898. He grew with the times and encouraged some of his best clients to experiment in silent film. His agency set the representation bar in the acting industry, and after moving his offices to Hollywood, it remains one of the top talent agencies in the business. But Zelman didn't use his own name, he took a pseudonym. What is this name under which he formed the agency?

Answer: William Morris

William Morris Agency is a Hall of Fame in its own right, having represented Charlie Chaplin, Mae West, Clark Gable, Milton Berle, Katharine Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley...how long do you have? Creative Artists Agency, founded in 1975, is the largest competition for WMA.

But WMA, with offices in Miami, FL, Nashville, TN, London, England, and Shanghai, they have their large feet in the door in multiple places with no intention of removing them soon.
8. This one arguably doesn't have Morris as a surname, but simply goes by the name of Morris. And he's a cat. But a very popular cat, as he has remained the spokescat for a popular cat food for over forty years. Can you name the only brand of cat food the finicky Morris the Cat will eat?

Answer: 9Lives

Morris the Cat, in addition to his 9Lives gig, has branched out into other advertising opportunities. He has worked with a Los Angeles pet shelter, and has appeared in a couple of 1970's movies. All Morrises have been rescue cats (there couldn't have been just one, as Morris has been around forty years), and they were voiced by the sardonic-sounding voiceover artist John Erwin.
9. James Corbitt Morris was a folk singer and songwriter from the 20th century. His most popular songs he penned were "The Battle of New Orleans" and "Tennessee Stud", along with thousands more. He chose a different stage name, one he adopted as his own name in 1950, one that seemed to "float" above the rest. What was James Morris better known as?

Answer: Jimmy Driftwood

Jimmy Driftwood started out as a teacher, a job where he used his musical talent to educate his students. "Battle of New Orleans" was originally a song he wrote to teach his students about the event. It would later be a Number One country song for Johnny Horton. Driftwood's songs would also be recorded by Johnny Cash and Eddy Arnold. Jimmy Driftwood died in 1998 at the age of 91.
10. This Morris is a country singer from the 1980s who had a handful of country Number Ones such as "100% Chance of Rain" and "Baby Bye Bye". He recorded a duet with fellow country singer Crystal Gayle called "Another World". Who is this Morris?

Answer: Gary Morris

"Another World" was adopted as the theme song for the NBC soap opera of the same name. Gary Morris also did an early version of "Wind Beneath My Wings" in 1983 before Bette Midler would turn it into the Grammy winning juggernaut it became. Gary's son Matt Morris is famous to Generation Y members as a cast member of the New Mickey Mouse Club.

He starred on that show from 1991 to '96. Matt still performs and writes music, writing for Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson among others.
