Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Jimmy Key has to be one of my favourite Keys. He was an American major league baseball pitcher. He won the World Series with the first team to win outside of the United States. What team?

Answer: Toronto Blue Jays

Jimmy Key was a left-handed accurate-throwing pitcher who played for the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees, and the Baltimore Orioles. Key won the World Series with both the Blue Jays and the Yankees, each time beating the Atlanta Braves.

Coming from Alabama, Key never thought that he would play his first years outside of the United States. However, after the Jays drafted Key in 1982, he quickly moved up into their senior team. He had successful seasons with them, notably in 1987 when he was the American League ERA leader. He would throw many strikeouts, but also gave up a fair share of home runs. All in all, he was a very good pitcher who threw very well.
2. Lieven de Key was a Dutch architect who worked in Haarlem who was in burning demand. He was able to build many buildings in the city due to what 1576 event?

Answer: City fire

Haarlem suffered a massive fire in October 1576. Some mercenaries, trying to warm themselves at a brewery on a chilly night, let their fire get out of control. Before they knew it, about a third of the city had been burned. Some years later, Lieven de Key was a prominent architect who was recently returned from London.

He was asked to help rebuild the city. Today, every building, wall, or even gable built by de Key is considered a Dutch National Heritage site.
3. Keegan-Michael Key is a crazy-funny comedian and an actor who co-starred in "Key & Peele" alongside Jordan Peele. Where did Key and Peele actually begin working together?

Answer: Mad TV

Keegan-Michael Key started as a comedian and had his big break when he was added to the cast of "Mad TV'. Originally, his role and Jordan Peele's role were supposed to oppose one another, however, they displayed on-screen comedic chemistry and were quickly slated together often. Comedy Central gave them their own show, "Key & Peele", which ran for three years.

Key has done movie acting as well. He appeared in small roles in "Pitch Perfect 2", "Tomorrowland", "Horrible Bosses 2" amongst others. As well, Key has done voice acting in "Toy Story 4", "The Lego Movie", "Storks", and others. As well, Key co-wrote and produced the comedic movie "Keanu" in which he also starred.
4. Philip Barton Key II was the son of Francis Scott Key. He died when a jealous husband found out about his wife's affair with Key and went crazy mad and murdered Key. What was special about the trial?

Answer: First use of the temporary insanity defence in the US

Philip Barton Key II was a handsome gent indeed, by all accounts, and a widower. He was a lawyer, as per the family tradition, and he was appointed as the eighth District Attorney for Washington DC. He was also quite flirtatious, and in 1858 began an affair with Teresa Sickles, the wife of Daniel Sickles, a Congressman.

The husband, though an adulterer himself, found out about the affair and murdered Key in broad daylight, then turned himself in. As a congressman, he got many privileges that a regular person would not have, and, at the trial, his lawyer argued that Sickles had been temporarily insane because it was a crime of passion.
5. Bom dia Kelly Key! She is a pop singer and television personality who comes from which South American country?

Answer: Brazil

Kelly de Almeida Afonso Freitas, known as Kelly Key, is a Brazilian pop singer and television hostess who has roots in Portugal. She released her first album at the age of 17 and it was successful for her due to the suggestive lyrics and her relationship with Latino, a Brazilian singer.

She really burst onto the music scene with her single "Baba" in 2001 when she signed with Warner Records. Since then she released several albums with a brief hiatus when she was concentrating on building up her television presence.
6. Sir John Key is a fan of bungee jumping, the All Blacks, and the "Lord of the Rings" movies. He was also the Prime Minister of a southern country, but, which one?

Answer: New Zealand

Sir John Phillip Key was the 38th Prime Minister of New Zealand. He served from 2008 to 2016 as the leader of the New Zealand National Party. He was a very popular Prime Minister but had always stated that he was not a career politician so he resigned, much to people's surprise, in December of 2016.

His tenure as Prime Minister focused much on economic growth, including a push to make the South Pacific a free-trade zone (an agreement that was made with Obama and put to paper but was then quashed under US President Trump).
7. Bailie Key was a calm, cool, focused, and very successful Junior international elite US gymnast between the years 2011 and 2014. Why was she not selected to the US Olympic team that represented at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games?

Answer: Injuries

Bailie Jaye Key was a talented gymnast who was expected to reach greatness in her sport. When she was competing at the junior international elite level, she would medal often. When she advanced to the senior international elite level, she would often beat out some household names like Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman.

However, a persistent injury left her unable to compete at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and, after surgery, Key decided to end her gymnastics career in 2019.
8. Ryan Key was the front man for the band Yellowcard. Some of his major influences were Nirvana, the Foo Fighters, Weezer, and Coldplay. What kind of music did Ryan Key mainly play?

Answer: Rock

William Ryan Key is an American musician who was the lead singer and guitarist for the pop punk band Yellowcard between the years of 2000 and 2017. He grew up listening to rock music and in an interview once mentioned albums by Nirvana, the Foo Fighters, Weezer, as well as the whole discography by Coldplay as some major influences on his music. Seeing how pop punk is a subgenre of rock, and also who his influences are, rock is the only possible answer here.

Ryan Key was introduced to music from a young age, especially the piano and the guitar. He was constantly surrounded by other punk musicians in high school and in college which was when he committed to being a musician. Other than Yellowcard, Key has been a member of Craig's Brother, Inspection 12, Linkin Park, as well as doing some solo acoustic music.
9. Alexander Key was an American author of science fiction. Which of the following books did he write?

Answer: Escape to Witch Mountain

Alexander Key wrote science fiction books for younger audiences. Some of the titles he wrote were "The Sword of Aradel", "Bolts: a Robot Dog", "Mystery of the Sassafras Chair", and, "Escape to Witch Mountain" in 1968. This book was adapted in 1975 into a movie by Walt Disney Productions and became, at the time, their most successful live-action movie. It starred Ike Eisenmann and Kim Richards in the role of brother and sister Tony and Tia. In 1978, Disney released a sequel to the movie, "Return from Witch Mountain", and Alexander Key wrote Disney a novel based on the movie.

Disney remade the movie twice, in 1995 which was not so successful, and an evolution of the original story called "Race to Witch Mountain" in 2009. This starred Dwayne Johnson and also gave small roles to Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann as a nod to their roles in the original movie.
10. Most people know Francis Scott Key as the author of the United States anthem. What, however, was his profession, a family profession that was considered quite respectable?

Answer: Lawyer

Francis Scott Key was the poet who wrote the poem "The Star-Spangled Banner" (ok, "Defence of Fort M'Henry") while watching Fort McHenry get bombed by the Canadians (ok, the British) in the War of 1812. He was actually a very prominent lawyer, from a long line of lawyers, and quite a successful one.

In fact, he was nominated as the District Attorney for Washington DC and became the fourth one. He served from 1833 until 1841 under US Presidents Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren.
