James Arness and his brother, actor Peter Graves, were born to a Norwegian father and German mother. He changed the family spelling of his last name, Aurness, when he became established in acting. His first role was in the movie "The Farmer's Daughter" starring Loretta Young.

He also played the creature in the 1951 science-fiction movie "The Thing." However, most people remember James Arness for playing the role of Marshall Matt Dillon in the TV Western "Gunsmoke" from 1955 to 1975.

Robert Sargent Shriver, Jr. was a vice presidential candidate and campaign coordinator for his brother-in-law, JFK. An advocate for peace, Shriver founded the Peace Corps to promote world peace and friendship. He also served as Director of the Office of Economic Opportunity in the Johnson Administration in the mid-1960s. President Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty program was lead by Shriver.

Known as "The Big Man" Clemons recorded with many famous artists over the years and even appeared in films and television shows. As the tenor sax player, Clemons contributed a great deal to the E Street sound. Both Clemons and Springsteen met while performing separately in New Jersey bands, although they had actually moved in the same music circles before that. According to various interviews with Clemons, it was he who approached Springsteen first while the latter was playing a gig at a N.J. club called "The Student Prince".

He asked Bruce if he could play with his band. Springsteen agreed and the rest is history.
