Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Adam and Eve were the first man and the first woman according to Genesis and their first two children were Cain and Abel. After Cain killed Abel, they had a third child and he was named Seth. According to Genesis 5:4, they also had other sons and daughters. What was the name of their fourth child?

Answer: No name is given

Scripture is vague and simply states after Seth, other sons and daughters were born. However, no details are given as to how many sons and daughters were born, let alone their names. Incidentally, Scripture states Adam lived for 800 years after the birth of Seth and died at age 930, as per Genesis 5:4-5.
2. Jacob had two wives who were sisters, Leah and Rachel, as per Genesis 29:15-30. What was the name of their father who had Jacob work for him for a total of fourteen years to gain permission to marry both?

Answer: Laban

Laban got fourteen years of labor out of Jacob, largely by tricking him. Jacob agreed to work for seven years for Laban if he could marry his younger daughter Rachel. However, at the end of seven years, Laban gave Jacob his older daughter Leah in marriage, saying "it is not our custom here to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older one." So, Jacob agreed to work an additional seven years for Rachel's hand.

It's a case of what goes around, comes around. After all, Jacob was a master deceiver as he had duped his elderly father Isaac into giving him his blessing over his twin brother Esau, as per Genesis 27:1-40.

After this incident, Jacob ended up fleeing as Esau plotted to kill him.
3. David had a number of wives with Bathsheba being the most well known. According to 2 Samuel 11:2, what was she doing when David first laid eyes on her?

Answer: Bathing on a rooftop.

Bathsheba was bathing on a rooftop and obviously captivated David with her beauty. 2 Samuel 11:2-4, in the NIV Bible states: "One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her.

The man said, 'Isn't this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?' Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her."
4. Boaz and Ruth are one of the better known couples in the Old Testament with the book of Ruth largely devoted to their romance. What was the name of their first son who ended up being the grandfather of David? (Ruth 4:13-16)

Answer: Obed

Obed is the correct answer. Ruth 4:17 states Obed was the father of Jesse and Jesse was the father of David, one of the most prominent figures in the Old Testament.
5. According to 1 Kings 11:3, Solomon had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines.

Answer: True

Yes, it's true. Scripture states he had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. The wives led him astray and as he grew old, his heart was turned after other gods and he was not fully devoted to the LORD, Scripture states.
6. There is no mention of the disciple Peter's wife in Scripture. If this is the case, why do people believe he was married? (Luke 4:38-39)

Answer: Scripture states Jesus healed his mother-in-law.

We know Peter, also known as Simon, was married because Scripture says Jesus healed his mother-in-law. Luke 4:38-39, in the NIV Bible, states: "Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now, Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. So he bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her.

She got up at once and began to wait on them."
7. The apostle Paul sings the praises of the husband-wife team Priscilla and Aquila who served with him on his missionary work. In Romans 16:3-4, Paul indicates they went beyond the call of duty. What did Priscilla and Aquila do to elicit praise from Paul?

Answer: They risked their lives for him.

No specific details are given, but Paul states in Romans 16, Priscilla and Aquila risked their lives for him. It's interesting to note the name Priscilla appears before Aquila, indicating she was much more dynamic than Aquila. And this at a time when women were seen as greatly inferior to men and were not even included in census figures.
8. Ananias and his wife Sapphira were struck dead about three hours apart when they claimed they had turned all the proceeds of the sale of their property over to the early church, but had secretly kept some for themselves. To what man did they claim they had turned all the proceeds over, only to be struck dead after making such a claim? (Acts 5:1-11)

Answer: Peter

They were both struck dead after telling Peter they had turned all their money from the sale of the property to the early church. According to Acts 5:11, in the NIV Bible, "great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events."
9. The letter to Philemon is a passionate plea by Paul to accept a run-away slave called Onesimus back as an equal in Christ. What is believed to be the name of Philemon's wife? (Philemon 1:2)

Answer: Apphia

There is no smoking gun, but Apphia is believed to be the wife of Philemon. Paul begins the letter to Philemon in the NIV Bible this way: "To Philemon our dear friend and fellow worker, to Apphia our sister, to Archippus our fellow soldier and to the church that meets in your home." Many theologians believe Apphia is his wife and Archippus is their son. Scripture, however, does not provide any details about Apphia or Archippus. (I highly recommend two quizzes posted on FunTrivia about Philemon. One is by CellarDoor and the other is by Glendathecat. Simply use the word 'Philemon' in the search template and you'll quickly find the two quizzes.)
10. Acts 24 is largely about Paul on trial before Felix. According to Acts 24:24, Felix's wife was a Jewess. What was her name?

Answer: Drusilla

The correct answer is Drusilla. However, apart from the passing reference in Acts 24:24, she is not mentioned again in Scripture. Incidentally, Acts 10:25 in the NIV Bible suggests Paul was scoring major points in his presentation to Felix: "As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, 'That's enough for now! You may leave.

When I find it convenient, I will send for you.'" Nevertheless, Felix let Paul languish in prison for two more years as a favor to Jewish religious leaders, Scripture states.
