Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Out of the four choices below, which one was a son of Joseph and Asenath?

Answer: Manasseh

Manasseh was the son of Joseph and Asenath. At the time, Joseph was the second most powerful man in Egypt, surpassed by only the Pharaoh. According to Genesis 41:51, Joseph called his firstborn son Manasseh, "For God has made me forget all my toil and all my father's house." Joseph and Asenath had a second son -- Ephraim.
2. What is the name of the food the Israelites miraculously received daily from heaven when they were trekking from Egypt to Canaan? (Remember, all answers start with the letters MAN.)

Answer: manna

The correct answer is manna. Exodus 16 tells of manna being miraculously provided to the Israelites daily while they were on a forty-year-long journey from Egypt to Canaan, known as the Promised Land. According to Exodus 16:31, manna was "like white coriander seed and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey."

I find it humorous that notes in the NKJV Study Bible state the word 'manna' translates as 'what?'
3. According to Genesis 30:14-22 in the NKJV, what was the name of the plant Leah gave to Rachel so she could spend an intimate evening with Jacob? (Remember, all answers start with the letters 'MAN'.)

Answer: mandrake

Leah gave Rachel some mandrakes so she could spend an intimate evening with Jacob, as per Genesis 30:14-22. The two women were sisters and both were married to Jacob.

The passage tells of Leah's son Reuben finding mandrakes in a field and taking them home to his mother. Rachel in turn asked Leah for some of her son's mandrakes.

Leah, however, was cool to the request, pointing out Rachel had basically taken Jacob away from her, and by asking for mandrakes was out of line. In response, Rachel said she would set things up so Jacob would spend an evening with Leah providing she gave her some mandrakes. Leah agreed to the offer.

The passage goes on to tell of Leah becoming pregnant and giving birth to Issachar, the fifth son for her and Jacob. Later, a sixth son, Zebulun, was born followed by a daughter, Dinah.

The passage concludes by stating Rachel, who had been barren, gave birth to her first son, Joseph.

Mandrake is a plant found throughout the Mediterranean. It is also known as mandragora. According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, mandrakes were regarded as an aid to conception in Biblical times.
4. Fill in the missing word from Genesis 17:4 in the NKJV, in which God is communicating with Abraham: "As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of ______ nations." (Remember, all answers start with the letters MAN.)

Answer: many

The missing word is 'many'. Abraham was known as Abram at the time and Genesis 17:4 tells of God promising him he would become a father of many nations.

Scripture goes on to state the land of Canaan would be an everlasting possession for Abraham's descendants.
5. Out of the four choices below, which one was the father of Samson?

Answer: Manoah

Manoah and his unnamed wife were the parents of Samson, a super-strong judge of Israel. According to Judges 13, Manoah's wife was unable to conceive but things changed dramatically when an Angel of God appeared and told her she would give birth to a son who would "deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines."

After becoming a noted judge of Israel, Samson would be betrayed by his Philistine lover, Delilah.
6. Out of the four choices below, which one, according to Acts 13:1, was a prophet and teacher at Antioch who is believed to have been a good friend of Herod the tetarch?

Answer: Manaen

Manaen is the correct answer but little is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference. Acts 13:1 describes him as a prophet and teacher "who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch." The verse also makes mention of Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene and Saul who later became known as Paul.

According to Wikipedia, some different Bible translations describe Manaen as Herod's "foster brother" or as his "life-long friend".
7. Fill in the missing word from John 14:21 in the NKJV, in which Jesus is talking to His disciples: "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and ________ Myself to him." (Remember, all answers start with the letters MAN.)

Answer: manifest

The missing word is 'manifest'. Jesus made the statement He would manifest Himself to those who love Him at the Last Supper. When Christ made the statement, the disciple Judas, not to be confused with Jusdas Iscariot, wanted to know how He would manifest Himself to the disciples, but not to the world.

John 14:23 gives Christ's reply in the NKJV: "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him."

Shortly after the Last Supper, Jesus would be arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane and after being put on trial in a kangaroo court, He would be humiliated and tortured and then crucified. However, three days later, He would triumphantly rise from the dead, as documented in all four Gospels in the New Testament.
8. Fill in the missing word from Job 12:10 in the NKJV, in which Job asks a question of his visiting friends: "In whose hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all __________?" (Remember, all answers start with the letters MAN.)

Answer: mankind

The missing word in the question posed by Job in Job 12:10 is 'mankind'. Job posed the question to his three friends -- Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar -- who visited him after he was beset with a long list of calamities. Scripture tells of Job's seven sons and three daughters being killed in a violent windstorm while his health seriously deteriorated and all his material wealth was taken from him. (A fourth friend, Elihu, would visit later.)

Despite his immense suffering, Job remained patient and did not point an accusing finger at God for his troubles.

Of course, God is the answer to the question Job posed in Job 12:10.
9. Fill in the missing word from John 14:2 in the NKJV in which Jesus is talking to His disciples: "In My Father's house are many _______; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." (Remember, all answers start with the letters MAN.)

Answer: mansions

The missing word is 'mansions'. Immediately after telling the Twelve Disciples there are many mansions in His Father's house, Jesus made the statement, "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know."

However, Thomas responded by stating he did not know the way Jesus was going.

Christ's famous response is recorded in John 14:6 in the NKJV: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
10. According to Luke 2:7, what was Jesus placed in after He was born? (Remember, all answers start with the letters MAN.)

Answer: manger

After being born, the Baby Jesus was placed in a manger, as per Luke 2:7. For the record, a manager is a trough used to hold feed for animals. It boggles the mind the Baby Jesus, who was Immanuel, or "God With Us", would be born into such humble circumstances. And this of a Person who was sent into the world to save it, and not condemn it.
