Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The man Jesus referred to as a "fox", as per Luke 13:31-32

Answer: Who is Herod?

Jesus referred to Herod as a fox in Luke 13:31-32 in the NKJV. He made the comment after some Pharisees warned Him Herod wanted Him dead. In response, Jesus told them: "Go, tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.' Nevertheless I must journey today, tomorrow, and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet should perish outside of Jerusalem."

In other words, Jesus was saying He had a task to complete and He had no intention of running away from Herod, or anyone else.

For the record, the word 'fox' is also used by Jesus to describe Herod in the KJV and the NIV as well as a vast number of other Bible versions.
2. A second name used by Tabitha, who was raised from the dead by Peter

Answer: Who is Dorcas?

Tabitha was also known as Dorcas. Acts 9:36-43 tells of Peter, one of the original Twelve Disciples, raising her from the dead. According to the passage in the NKJV, Tabitha/Dorcas lived in Joppa and "was full of good works and charitable deeds". After the miracle, Scripture states "many believed on the Lord" in Joppa.
3. The community which was the home of Peter, Andrew and Philip, three members of the original Twelve Disciples

Answer: What is Bethsaida?

Peter, Andrew and Philip, three members of the original Twelve Disciples, came from Bethsaida, as per John 1:44. It is believed other disciples came from Bethsaida, but going strictly by Scripture, Peter, Andrew and Philip are the only ones identified as coming from the fishing community on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. Peter and Andrew were brothers, the son of Jonah. No details are given about Philip's family but it is believed he spoke Greek as John 12:20-22 tells of a Greek delegation approaching Philip, wanting to meet with Jesus. Supporting this belief is the fact Philip is a Greek name.
4. The steward of Herod's household and the husband of Joanna, a follower of Jesus

Answer: Who is Chuza?

Chuza was the steward of Herod's household, as per Luke 8:3 in the NKJV. (In the NIV, it states Chuza was the manager of Herod's household.) Chuza was married to Joanna, a devout follower of Jesus. In fact, Luke 8:3 states Joanna, as well as "many others" provided for Jesus from their substance. Little is known about Chuza as he is mentioned in passing reference in Scripture.
5. The Roman emperor Festus gave approval to Paul to appeal his case before, as per Acts 25:12

Answer: Who is Caesar?

Acts 25:12 tells of Festus, the Roman governor, giving approval to Paul to present his case before Caesar. Festus rendered his decision after Paul appeared before him. Previously Paul had appeared before Felix, a Roman governor who Festus replaced. At that time, Felix had ordered Paul remain in jail.

Festus had apparently come to the realization Paul was a Roman citizen and had the right to appeal his case before Caesar. The Jewish religious leaders of the day had charged Paul with blasphemy because he had been preaching the Gospel message.
6. The man who intervened to prevent Paul's enemies from killing him, as per Acts 23:26

Answer: Who is Claudius Lysias?

Acts 23:11-35 tells of Caludius Lysias, commander of the Roman garrison at Jerusalem, taking action to make sure Paul would arrive safely on his journey to Caesarea. According to the passage, Paul was to travel to Caesarea to appear before Felix, the Roman governor of Judea. However, Scripture states forty men had planned to ambush Paul and vowed to neither eat nor drink until they had killed him.

Scripture goes on to tell of Claudius Lysias assigning two hundred soldiers, seventy horseman and two hundred spearmen to transport Paul safely to the hands of Felix during the third hour of the night.
7. The second name that Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, was known by

Answer: Who is Saul?

Paul was also known as Saul. In fact, when Paul had his dramatic encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus, he was called Saul, as per Acts 9:10. It is not until Acts 13:1 that he was first referred to as Paul in the New Testament.
8. A worker in the early church who is mentioned by Paul in the salutation of his letter to believers in Corinth, as per 1 Corinthians 1:1

Answer: Who is Sosthenes?

Sosthenes is the correct answer, with his name appearing in 1 Corinthians 1:1. Although his name appears in the salutation of Paul's letter to members of the early church at Corinth, a city in Greece, little is known about Sosthenes.

Some people believe he is the same man who is called Sosthenes in Acts 18:17. The verse tells of Sosthenes, a synagogue ruler, being beaten by an unruly mob. If it is the same man, he had obviously converted to Christianity after being a ruler of a synagogue.
9. A book in the New Testament that contains the famous 'Love Chapter'

Answer: What is 1 Corinthians?

The 'Love Chapter' is found in 1 Corinthians 13. The Book of Corinthians was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and addressed to members of the early church at Corinth, a city in Greece. The Love Chapter is popular with tens of millions of Christians around the world and is often read at weddings and funerals.
10. The book that appears immediately after Philippians, using the KJV

Answer: What is Colossians?

Using Bible versions such as the KJV, NKJV and the NIV, the Book of Colossians appears immediately after the Book of Philippians. Both books were written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. Philippians was written to members of the early church in Philippi while Colossians was addressed to believers in Colosse.
