Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the only woman mentioned in the Bible as 'leprous'?

Answer: Miriam

Both Miriam and Aaron, brother and sister to Moses, were angry with him because of his marriage to a Cushite woman. It must have been an unjust anger because God smote Miriam with leprosy. Numbers 12:10
2. Who is the only woman in the Bible designated 'Mother in Israel'?

Answer: Deborah

Deborah was a prophetess and a judge in Israel at a time when Israel needed a leader. Barak had been commmanded by God to go to battle against the king of Canaan, but he refused to go without Deborah. After they returned from battle victorious, Deborah sang a song of joy with the words of Judges 5 announcing that she was a 'mother in Israel'. Judges 5:7
3. Who was the mother who circumcised her son with a sharp stone instead of a knife?

Answer: Zipporah

Moses was about to leave on his journey to lead the people of Israel out of bondage in Egypt. However, he had not circumcised his son, and God would have killed him had Zipporah not immediately grabbed the first sharp instrument she could find, and circumcised him herself. She called him a 'bloody husband' because of the difficult deed she had done to save Moses' life. Exodus 4:25
4. What woman turned in hatred toward a noble young man because she was unable to seduce him?

Answer: Potiphar's wife

Potiphar was an Egyptian officer of Pharaoh, and a captain of the guard. His wife's name is not given in the Bible. However, the 39th chapter of Genesis gives an interesting account of how a young man, in order not to betray God, or his master, refused to be tempted by a woman to sin. He went to prison for his loyalty to both Potiphar and the Lord.
5. Name the man whose wife advised her husband to 'curse God and die'.

Answer: Job

It is quite obvious that Job's wife was not as faithful, or patient in suffering as her husband. To give Job that kind of advice would only discourage and even defeat a man, suffering mental anguish and physical torture without knowing why. Job 2:9
6. Who saved her husband from arrest and probable death by the use of a 'dummy'?

Answer: Michal

King Saul had thrown a javelin at David to kill him, but it hit the wall and David fled to his home to his wife Michal. Saul sent messengers to capture David at his home, and Michal let him down through a window. She then made a 'dummy', placed it in his bed, and told the soldiers that David was sick. 1 Samuel 19: 11-17
7. What woman gave birth to a son at the age of ninety years?

Answer: Sarah

Abraham is known as the father of the faithful. It is interesting to me that he 'fell upon his face and laughed...' when he was told by the Lord that Sarah would bear him a son. Sarah had laughed, as well, but denied it. Seems they had a great deal more 'faith' to develop in the promises of God. Don't we all? Genesis 17: 17,18
8. When did women labour as stonemasons?

Answer: During the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem

Nehemiah, the king's cupbearer, permitted Nehemiah to return to Jerusalem. The king must have been fond of Nehemiah, because he noticed his sadness, and questioned him about it. When told about the problems the returned exiles were having rebuilding the walls, he not only allowed Nehemiah to return, but gave him letters to take with him that were signed by the king to assure his safety, along with soldiers and material goods to aid him in his work. Even the daughters of men worked along with their people. Nehemiah 3:12
9. Who forged her husband's name to certain important letters?

Answer: Jezebel

King Ahab, her husband, was sad because Naboth would not sell him his vineyard. She forged letters and gave them to the king's leaders, telling them to bear false witness against Naboth, and then stone him to death. They followed her orders, and Naboth died because of a small vineyard that he dearly loved because it was passed down through his {ancestry;} he loved it more than the money that the king offered, but lost his life and vineyard because of a wicked woman. 1 Kings 21:5-9
10. Name the man whose wife is the only woman in the Bible that we are explicitly commanded to remember.

Answer: Lot

Lot and his wife and two daughters were miraculously saved by angels from the horrible fate that fell to Sodom and Gomorrah. However, his wife, although warned not to look back, disobeyed, and became nothing more than a pillar of salt. Her heart was still longing for her life among the sinful people of those cities. Jesus reminded us that we are not to look back to our sinful ways in longing, once we have made the decision to follow Him. Luke 17:32
