Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Adam. (Genesis 4:25)

Answer: Seth

Seth was the third son of Adam and Eve and was born after Cain killed Abel, according to Scripture. Genesis 4:26 states Seth was the father of Enosh.

Incidentally, Seth's name appears in the New Testament as part of the genealogy of Christ, as per Luke 3:38.
2. Find the match for Methuselah. (Genesis 5:26)

Answer: Lamech

Methuselah was the father of Lamech, as per Genesis 5:26. Methuselah, of course, has the distinction of being the oldest person in the Bible. According to Genesis 5:27, he lived to be 969 years old.

Meanwhile, Lamech has the distinction of being the first polygamist in the Bible and the second murderer. Genesis 4:19 states his wives were Adah and Zillah. Genesis 4:23-24 tells of Lamech killing an unnamed man for wounding him.
3. Find the match for Judah. (Genesis 38:6-10)

Answer: Er and Onan

Judah, according to Scripture, was the father of Er and Onan. Both sons were husbands of Tamar and both were struck dead by the LORD because of their wickedness.

Here's how Genesis 38:6-10 explains things in the NKJV: "Then Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, and her name was Tamar. But Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD killed him. And Judah said to Onan, 'Go in to your brother's wife and marry her, and raise up an heir to your brother.' But Onan knew that the heir would not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in to his brother's wife, that he emitted on the ground, lest he should give an heir to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the LORD; therefore He killed him also."

Later Judah would end up impregnating Tamar and she would give birth to twins, Perez and Zerah.
4. Find the match for Abraham. (Genesis 21:3)

Answer: Isaac

Isaac was the only child of Abraham and his wife Sarah. His birth is recorded in Genesis 21:3. According to Genesis 21:4, Abraham was one hundred years old when Isaac was born while Genesis 17:7 states Sarah was ninety.

One of the best known stories in the Old Testament tells of Abraham preparing to sacrifice his son Isaac. Scripture reports God commanded Abraham to take his son Isaac to a mountain in the region of Moriah and to sacrifice him as a burnt offering. Just as Abraham was preparing to sacrifice Isaac, Scripture reports an angel of the LORD called out and told him to spare his son because it was evident Abraham feared God. After the angel called out, Abraham spotted a ram in the thicket and used it as his sacrificial offering. The story is told in the 22nd chapter of Genesis. Many Christians compare this episode to God's sacrifice of His own Son, Jesus, in the New Testament.
5. Find the match for Jacob. (Genesis 35:18)

Answer: Benjamin

Benjamin was the youngest son of Jacob. Benjamin's mother was Rachel who died giving birth to him.

Genesis 35:16-20, in the NKJV, explains things this way: "Then they journeyed from Bethel. And when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel labored in childbirth, and she had hard labor. Now it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, 'Do not fear; you will have this son also.' And so it was, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-Oni; but his father called him Benjamin. So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). And Jacob set a pillar on her grave, which is the pillar of Rachel's grave to this day."

Jacob and Rachel were also the parents of an older son, Joseph.
6. Find the match for Esau. (Genesis 36:4)

Answer: Eliphaz

Often in quizzes, there is one question that is especially difficult and I suspect this might have been one of those situations. According to Genesis 36:4, Esau and his wife Adah were parents of Eliphaz.

Esau had other wives and other sons, according to Genesis 36:1-5. The verses in the NKJV states "Now this is the genealogy of Esau, who is Edom. Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite; Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite; and Basemath, Ishmael's daughter, sister of Nebajoth. Now Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, and Basemath bore Reuel. And Aholibamah bore Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah. These were the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan."
7. Find the match for Noah. (Genesis 5:32)

Answer: Ham

Noah, according to Scripture, was the father of three sons -- Ham, Shem and Japheth.

Ham is perhaps best known for seeing his father Noah being drunk and sleeping in his tent naked. According to Scripture, Ham told his brothers of their father's predicament and they responded by entering the tent backwards and covering him with a garment. (As a result, they did not see his nakedness.)

Genesis 9:24-27 tells of Noah, after waking from his wine, cursing Ham's son Canaan and blessing Shem and Japheth.
8. Find the match for Isaac. (Genesis 25:25-26)

Answer: Jacob

Isaac was the father of Jacob and Esau, the first set of documented twins in Scripture. The mother of the boys was Rebekah.

The boys might have been twins, but they were distinctly different, according to Scripture. Genesis 25:27 states, "Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents."

Scripture also states Isaac favored Esau while Rebekah favored Jacob.
9. Find the match for Enoch. (Genesis 5:21)

Answer: Methuselah

Enoch was the father of Methuselah who has the distinction of being the oldest person in the Bible. According to Genesis 5:27, "all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years."

According to Scripture, Enoch did not die a natural death. Genesis 5:22-24, in the NIV Bible, states: "After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away." In other words, he did not die, but was taken away by God, similar to Elijah.

Incidentally, Hebrews 11:5, in the New Testament, has this to say about Enoch and his departure: "By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: He could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God."

According to Wikipedia, Enoch means initiated, dedicated and disciplined.
10. Find the match for Joseph. (Genesis 41:52)

Answer: Ephraim

Ephraim was one of two sons of Joseph and Asenath. The other son was Manasseh, the oldest.

Genesis 41:50-52, in the NKJV, states: "And to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On, bore to him. Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: 'For God has made me forget all my toil and all my father's house.' And the name of the second he called Ephraim: 'For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction'."

At the time, Joseph had ascended to become the second most powerful man in Egypt, surpassed by only the Pharaoh.
