Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start with an easy one. Find the match for Joseph. (Matthew 1:16)

Answer: Mary

Mary, of course, was the wife of Joseph, who according to Scripture, became pregnant with Jesus while still a virgin. Details about her becoming pregnant while still a virgin are given in the first chapter of Matthew as well as the first and second chapters of Luke.

Not much is known about Joseph, but Scripture states he was a carpenter. According to Matthew 1:16, his father's name was Jacob.
2. Find the match for Lazarus. (John 11:1)

Answer: Apparently not married

Lazarus, who was raised from the dead by Jesus, was apparently single as Scripture tells of him living in Bethany with his sisters Mary and Martha. His miraculous return from the dead is told in John 11. According to Verse 39, Lazarus had been dead four days and his sister Martha is quoted as telling Jesus there was nothing that could be done because "Lord, by this time there is a stench."

Verses 41 to 44 in the NKJV tell of the miracle that followed: "Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, 'Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.' Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come forth!' And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, 'Loose him, and let him go'."

In Verse 25-26, Jesus makes the famous declaration, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die."
3. Find the match for Zecharias in the NKJV and Zechariah in the NIV. (Luke 1:5)

Answer: Elizabeth

Zecharias was married to Elizabeth and they were the parents of John the Baptist. (In the NIV, Zecharias is called Zechariah.) Elizabeth gave birth to John even though she and her husband were "well advanced in years", according to the first chapter of Luke. Luke 12:5 states Elizabeth was a descendant of Aaron. Meanwhile, Luke 1:39-45 tells of Elizabeth meeting with Mary, the teenage virgin girl who was pregnant with Jesus.

The two were relatives and their offspring would change the course of history.
4. Find the match for the unnamed father of Timothy. (2 Timothy 1:5)

Answer: Eunice

No name is given for Timothy's father but according to 2 Timothy 1:5, the name of Timothy's mother was Eunice and his grandmother's name was Lois. According to Acts 16:1, Timothy's unnamed father was Greek and his mother Eunice was Jewish.

Timothy is known for being a young and timid worker in the early church and Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, often refers to him as his son.

In 2 Timothy 1:2 in the NKJV, Paul calls him "a beloved son."
5. Find the match for Aquila. (Acts 18:2)

Answer: Priscilla

Priscilla and Aquila were a dynamic husband-wife team in the early church. Priscilla and Aquila are never mentioned alone, always together in the books the apostle Paul is credited with writing. Often, Priscilla's name appears before her husband's and this at a time when women were regarded as grossly inferior and not even included in census figures!

In Romans 16:4, Paul writes Priscilla and Aquila risked their lives for him and "all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them."

The exploits of Priscilla and Aquila are reported in the 18th chapter of Acts. Paul also mentions the dynamic duo in 1 Corinthians 16:19 and in 2 Timothy 4:19.
6. Find the match for Chuza. (Luke 8:3)

Answer: Joanna

Joanna, according to Luke 8:3 was the wife of Chuza, who served as Herod's steward. According to the verse, Joanna, as well as other women, provided for Jesus "from their substance". No further mention is made in Scripture of Joanna and Chuza.
7. Find the match for the wife of Peter. (Matthew 8:14)

Answer: No name is given

We know Peter had a wife because Scripture says Jesus healed his mother-in-law who was sick in bed. However, no name is given for his wife, or his mother-in-law.

Matthew 8:14-15 in the NKJV tells of Jesus miraculously making the woman well again: "Now when Jesus had come into Peter's house, He saw his wife's mother lying sick with a fever. So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them."

Details of the miracle are also reported in Mark 1:29-31 and Luke 4:38-39.
8. Find the match for Ananias. (Acts 5:1)

Answer: Sapphira

Ananias, according to Scripture, was married to Sapphira. They were struck dead after they met separately with Peter and both claimed they had turned over the entire proceeds from the sale of their property, as per Acts 5:1-11,

Acts 5:3-5, in the NKJV, states: "But Peter said, 'Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.' Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last."

According to Scripture the same thing happened three hours later to Sapphira.

Acts 3:11 tells of "great fear" coming upon members of the early church.
9. Find the match for Herod. (Mark 6:17)

Answer: Herodias

Herodias was the vindictive and conniving wife of Herod. Scripture states she was successful in getting her daughter to request John the Baptist's head on a platter. When her daughter's request was fulfilled, Herodias had removed a hated adversary from the scene. According to Scripture, Herodias had left her first husband and married his half brother and John denounced the union.

Matthew 14:6-12 reports Herod hosted a lavish birthday party for himself and when Herodias' daughter, who is not named, danced at the reception, Herod was so pleased he told the girl he would give her whatever she asked for. Verse 8, in the NKJV Bible, states: "So she, having been prompted by her mother, said, 'Give me John the Baptist's head here on a platter'."

Verse 11 goes on to tell of this macabre scene: "And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother."
10. Find the match for Felix. (Acts 24:24)

Answer: Drusilla

Drusilla was the wife of Felix, a Roman governor who presided over a trial in which Paul was accused of sedition. Drusilla was the third and youngest daughter of Herod Agrippa, according to the Website Christiananswers.net. The same site reports Drusilla and her son perished in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, A.D. 79.

The 24th chapter of Acts is devoted to the trial of Paul before Felix with charges against him levied by the high priest Ananias. Arguing the case on behalf of Ananias and some of the elders was a lawyer named Tertullus.

Paul appeared to be scoring major points in the trial. Acts 24:25, in the NKJV Bible, states things this way: "Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, 'Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.'"

However, Scripture also indicates Felix was hopeful of being bribed. Verse 26 states: "Meanwhile he also hoped that money would be given him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore he sent for him more often and conversed with him."

With no bribe money coming his way, Scripture states Felix, "wanting to do the Jews a favor", left Paul bound for two years.
