Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Proverbs 31:8 (NIV version) says, "Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and the needy."

Answer: False

Verse 8 says, "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute." The verse in the question, "Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and the needy," is verse 9. This is all talking about the advice given by the mother of Solomon.
2. The beginning of Proverbs 31 is about the sayings of who?

Answer: King Lemuel

Lemuel is, by Jewish traditions, Solomon. Solomon was, according to the Bible, the wisest man on Earth.
3. According to Proverbs 31, a noble wife is worth more than what?

Answer: Rubies

It also says that a noble wife is hard to find. Rubies are also hard to find and are therefore very valuable. This wife must be pretty perfect to be worth more than rubies, a precious jewel.
4. Based on verse 12 (NIV), a wife of a noble character brings what to her husband?

Answer: Good

It also mentions that the husband has full confidence in his wife. Her husband leaves her to the household every day, and is always happy to find that she is hard at work even when he comes home.
5. Proverbs 31:7 says, "Let them _____ and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more" (NIV version). Based on this verse, what should he let them do?

Answer: Drink

Lemuel's mother is saying that just because others are doing something, it doesn't mean you should do it as well. It is a king's responsibility to be wise. You can't be wise if you're doing stupid things because they make you popular.
6. According to Proverbs 31, the children and the husband praise the noble wife.

Answer: True

This is found in verse 28. Her children praise her by calling her blessed. She is always working hard so that when they come home, the household is always better then when they left it. She has a lot of initiative.
7. In verse 22 in Proverbs 31, it mentions that the noble wife's household is clothed in scarlet. The wife herself is clothed in fine linen in what color?

Answer: Purple

Purple was a very expensive color in those days.

I believe that the wife is always making sure everyone is satisfied. I think that no one always gets everything they want, but no one will ever be crying in need in her household. I am almost positive that she would help the beggars at her door as well.
8. In Proverbs 31, it says in verse 26 that she (the noble wife) speaks with what (NIV)?

Answer: Wisdom

Verse 26 finishes, "Faithful instruction is on her tongue." That adds to the beginning of the verse. She's perfect, but ordinary people can be like her as well. It just takes a lot of self-control.
9. In verse 2 of Proverbs 31 (NIV), how many times does Lemuel's mother say "listen"?

Answer: 3

The verse is, "Listen, my son! Listen, son of my womb! Listen, my son, the answers to my prayers!" Lemuel's mother probably believes that what she has to say is very important. Based on her advice that follows, I think it's very important too.
10. In Proverbs 31, according to verse 4, what are kings not to drink?

Answer: Wine

It also says that kings can't crave beer, "lest they drink and forget what has been decreed, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights" (verse 5). In my opinion, drinking is not just wrong for kings, but for everybody.
