1. What was the most number of home runs, that Lou Gehrig hit in a season?

Answer: 49

Gehrig popped for 49 twice in his career with the Yankees. 1934 was the first time he hit 49, and he won the Triple Crown that season. 1936 saw him do it again, and he won the MVP that season. In 17 seasons, he hit 493 career home runs.
2. 2002 St. Louis Cardinal Jim Edmonds began his Major League career with what team?

Answer: Angels

Edmonds started his career in 1993 with the Angels. In a limited role, he had zero home runs, and batted .246. In 4 full seasons with the Angels, he hit 25 or more home runs each year, until an injury sidelined him, and he appeared in only 55 games in 1999. In 2000 he was traded to the Cardinals, and justified their acquisition by hitting a new career high of 42 home runs.
3. Which of the following teams, never changed their name during the 20th century?

Answer: Detroit Tigers

The Tigers began their franchise in 1901 amongst many other teams. The Brewers were the Seattle Pilots in 1969. The Yankees were the Highlanders before becoming the Yankees. And finally, the Astros were the Houston Colt .45's in 1964.
4. What baseball great had the nickname of "Barney", and "Big Train"?

Answer: Walter Johnson

Walter Johnson pitched for 21 seasons with the Washington Senators. 'Big Train' set many Major League pitching records, and terrorized batters of the American League. He won 3 pitching Triple Crowns in his career, along with 2 MVP Awards. He was one of 5 players who were inaugurally inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1936.
5. Who was the first batter to obtain 4,000 hits in their career?

Answer: Ty Cobb

Although Rose broke Ty Cobb's career record, the 'Georgia Peach' was the first to reach the 4,000 plateau. The 1927 season saw Cobb hit touch the impossible mark. Ironically, after being loyal to the Detroit Tigers for 22 seasons, his first of two years with the Athletics of Philadelphia, saw him break that mark.
6. Which of the following has won the Rookie of the Year award 3 times?

Answer: None of these

All 3 listed won the ROTY once. A player can only win the award in his rookie year.

Answer: Denny McLain

Although the other 3 listed are Cy Young winners, they won the award in the National League. McLain went an outrageous 31-6 in 1968 with the Tigers to win the Cy, and the American League MVP Award. The following season, McLain tied for the Cy Young with Baltimore Oriole Mike Cuellar.

Answer: 1876

After being the National Association in 1875, the National League officially began in 1876 with 8 teams. The teams were in order of most wins in that season; Chicago, St. Louis, Hartford, Boston, Louisville, New York, Philadelphia, and Cincinnati.
9. In what year did Ted Williams win a World Series crown as a player?

Answer: He never won it

The great Ted Williams encountered only one World Series appearance in his career. The year was 1946, when his Boston Red Sox met the St.Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals won 4 games to 3, and Williams batted .200.
10. Who won the first Rookie of the Year award, in 1947?

Answer: Jackie Robinson

Jackie was the only player listed who played in 1947. In the first season of this award, his presence was a milestone for Major League baseball and the world, via Dodger owner Branch Rickey. In his rookie season, Robinson hit 12 home runs, had 175 hits, along with 29 stolen bases. Two seasons later, he won the National League MVP award also.
