1. What pitcher threw the first World Series perfect game?

Answer: Don Larsen

Larsen threw the perfecto in the 1956 World Series on October 8th. The Brooklyn Dodgers were unfortunately at the other end of Larsen's arm in game 5. Mantle helped the cause with a solo home run. In 10 World Series appearances, Larsen has a record of 4-2. By the way, the Yankees won the Series 4 games to 3.
2. Who was the first player to hit 200 RBIs in a season during the 20th century?

Answer: Nobody did it

Lewis Robert 'Hack' Wilson was the closest when he hit 191 in 1930, along with his career-high of 56 home runs with the Chicago Cubs. Hack played 12 seasons from 1923-1934.
3. In 1903, the Boston Pilgrims won the first World Series. Who did they beat?

Answer: Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pilgrims (later to be the Red Sox), beat the Pirates 5 games to 3 in 1903. The Pirates were led by Honus Wagner and Fred Clarke. The Pilgrims were led by Jimmy Collins and Patsy Dougherty.
4. Which of the following never pitched for the San Francisco Giants?

Answer: Bob O'Farrell

O'Farrell was the National League MVP in 1926 with the Cardinals. The other 3 listed, pitched for the Giants in 1963.
5. Which of the following teams were once known as the Gothams?

Answer: Giants

Before moving to San Francisco to become the SF Giants, the franchise was in New York. From 1885-1957 they were known as the New York Giants. Prior to 1885 for two seasons, the team was known as the New York Gothams. The Gothams finished no better than 4th place.

Answer: 5

The Yankees won 5 consecutive World Series, the most by any team in the 20th century. The first season of the streak was in 1949, when they defeated the Brooklyn bunch 4 games to 1. To continue clearing their path, they skunked the Phillies 4-0, beat the Giants, and the Dodgers twice more.

The Yankees were rostered with Berra, Rizzuto, and DiMaggio, along with the arms of Allie Reynolds and Vic Raschi.
7. With what team did Carl Yastrzemski win the Triple Crown Award?

Answer: Boston Red Sox

Yaz was a loyal player who spent his entire career with one team. He played from 1961-1983, and won the Triple Crown in 1967. A stellar year of hitting 44 home runs, 121 RBIs, 189 hits, and batted .326. He also won the MVP with a Gold Glove in 1967.
8. What 2002 Oakland player led the team in hits, batting average, RBIs, and runs scored?

Answer: Miguel Tejada

The only batting category that Tejada did not lead the team in 2002 was home runs. He tied that team mark with Eric Chavez. They both hit 34. The 2002 season was Tejada's 6th year in the Majors.
9. Who was the only player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1988?

Answer: Willie Stargell

Willie 'Pops' Stargell took the lone induction in 1988. His services with the Pittsburgh Pirates were well documented during his 21 seasons with the club. The others listed were all inducted 20 years earlier.
10. Jack Chesbro set a Major League record by winning 41 games in 1904. What pitcher was the runner-up, and won 35 games that season?

Answer: Joe McGinnity

Chesbro won 41 with the Highlanders of New York. The runner-up was crosstown rival New York Giant star Joe McGinnity. Both pitchers led their own league in wins for the season.
