Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which is one of the shortest holes on a USA PGA Tournament course, where wind conditions off the Pacific Ocean can mean players use anything from a Sand Wedge to a 7 iron?

Answer: 7th at Pebble Beach

The 7th at Pebble Beach is only 106 yards long and plays downhill, but winds coming off the Pacific Ocean can play havoc with club selection.
2. Which famed USA par 5 finishing hole has the Pacific Ocean on the left from tee to green, two trees in the middle of the fairway, and a "postage-stamp" sized green?

Answer: 18th at Pebble Beach

The 18th at Pebble Beach was a average par 4 until 200 yards were added to it, to make it one of the classic finishing holes.
3. We find a Par 3 that has evolved into a "stadium" hole. Where will you find the hole with the rowdiest fans on the PGA Tour?

Answer: 16th at TPC at Scottsdale

The 16th at TPC at Scottsdale has evolved into a "stadium" hole with bleachers and corporate boxes completely surrounding the hole. Players are cheered for good shots and booed for bad ones. In 1997, Tiger Woods aced the 16th during the FBR Open.
4. Where do you find the world's only "floating green"?

Answer: 14th at Coeur d'Alene

This hole plays anywhere from 95 to 200 yards, depending where they anchor the green. After completing the hole, you receive a Certificate of Achievement, complete with your name, date, and score to commemorate this historic feat.
5. A golf course that is not a PGA Tour stop, but is consistently the #1 ranked course in the world. Where will you find a hole with a tee shot over a pond and several forced carries over expansive stretchs of sand, including "Hell's Half Acre"?

Answer: 7th at Pine Valley

Located southeast of Philadelphia, Pine Valley is the #1 ranked golf course in the world.
6. Where will we find the heart of "Amen Corner"?

Answer: 12th at Augusta National

Named "Golden Bell", the 12th at Augusta National is the shortest hole on the course, but the second most difficult.
7. This is perhaps the most recognizable hole in golf. Where do you find the "Island Green"?

Answer: 17th at TPC Sawgrass

It is also known for accumulating, on average, twice as many "lost" balls as an entire golf course. With its famed island green, each year, on average, 120,000 balls are hit into the water at the 17th at TPC Sawgrass.
8. This lovely Par 3 has a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. The pros used to play this course, but its no longer in the rotation on an early stop on the Tour. Where do you tee off from the top of a cliff to a green over 200 yards away?

Answer: 16th at Cypress Point

Once in the rotation during the AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach, Cypress Point's #16 is one of the most difficult holes in the world. Many golfer have to use driver off the tee because of the winds off the Pacific and many choose to lay-up far to the left, rather than chance hitting into the ocean.
9. Where would you find the "Road Hole"?

Answer: 17th at St Andrews

So named because of the road running along the right side of the hole.
10. This hole is not the toughest, but is one of the most famous. On which hole do we find the Swilcan Bridge?

Answer: 18th at St Andrews

With the clubhouse in the background, this is a fitting end to our tour of great golf holes. The Swilcon Bridge crosses the Swilcan Burn which cuts across the first and 18th fairways, and provides the only water hazard on the Old Course.
