Viv Anderson was born in Nottingham and signed as an apprentice in August 1974. He made his debut against Sheffield Wednesday in September 1974 and was eventually sold to Arsenal in August 1984. Viv briefly managed Barnsley, and was Bryan Robson's assistant at Middlesbrough.

Chris Bart-Williams: 'The Bartman'. Chris was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone. He was signed from Sheffield Wednesday, July 1995, making his debut on 12 September 1995 vs Malmo. He was eventually moved to Charlton Athletic, November 2001 (Loan), and June 2002 (Bosman transfer).

Garry Birtles was born in Nottingham, and signed from non-league Long Eaton United, March 1977, and re-signed again from Manchester United in September 1982. He made his debut on 12th March, 1977 vs Hull City, and was sold to Manchester United in October 1980, and then again to Notts County, May 1987.

Steve Chettle was born in Nottingham and signed from apprentice in July 1985. He eventually made his debut on 5th September, 1987 vs Chelsea. After many good years loyal service he was eventually sold to Barnsley, in December 1999.

Archie Gemmill scored a truly world class and memorable goal for Scotland against Holland in the 1978 World Cup. Archie was born in Paisley. He signed for Forest from local rivals Derby County, in September 1977. He made his debut on 1st October, 1977 vs Norwich City. Forest sold Archie to Birmingham City, in August 1979.

Stuart Pearce gained 78 caps for England and scored 5 goals. 'Psycho' was born in Shepherd's Bush and signed from Coventry City, in May 1985 along with Ian Butterworth. He made his debut in August 1985 against Luton Town. After a short spell managing the Reds he was eventually sold to Newcastle United, in August 1997.

He later played for West Ham United. There has never been a Forest player who was such a hero to the fans. Pearce's phenomenal thunderous tackling, all-out commitment and rampaging runs up the left wing immediately endeared him, captaining club and country. Who could forget his penalty miss Italy 1990, and then the bravery and reaction in a similar situation in Euro '96 against Spain. Over 400 games for Forest, and a true hero.

Peter Shilton was born in Leicester but signed from Stoke City, in September 1977. He made his Forest debut in September 1977 vs Aston
Trevor. Seen as the reserve to Ray Clemence under Ron Greenwood. (England were lucky enough to have 2 outstanding goalkeepers at the time, and for several years Shilton and Clemence shared the position in the national team - either of them could have won 150 caps if they'd played in a different era.

Pierre van Hooijdonk was born in Steenbergen, Netherlands. He signed for Forest from Celtic, in March 1997. He made his debut in March 1997 vs Blackburn Rovers. He was eventually sold to Vitesse Arnhem, June 1999. The then sale of fellow strike partner Kevin Campbell left Pierre van Hooijdonk feeling Forest lacked ambition and simply weren't good enough. On his day a fantastic striker but still leaves a sour taste.

Collymore was born in Stone and signed from Southend United, in June 1993, rumour has it Brian Clough had the chance to sign him earlier but baulked at the price. He made his Forest debut in August 1993 vs Crystal Palace. He was sold to Liverpool in July 1995.

He had pace, he had power, he was good in the air, he could shoot thunderously with either foot, he frightened even top class defenders to death when he ran at them and whenever he got the ball at his feet there was an expectant buzz which would run through the crowd.

Answer: Nigel Clough

Nigel Clough was born in Middlesbrough, and signed as a schoolboy in July 1983, making his debut on 26th December, 1984 vs Ipswich Town. He was sold to Liverpool in July 1993 but returned briefly on loan between December 1996 and March 1997. His speed of thought and his range of passing more than made up for any lack of pace, and his finishing was so good, he like many other players that left Forest for bigger clubs like Liverpool or Manchester united.
