The Hurricanes were supposed to play the Washington Huskies for the '94 season opener, but switched with the Eagles. Good thing they did , the Canes lost their next home game to Damon Huard and the Huskies, two weeks after getting the record.

The 9th ranked Seminoles beat the 2nd ranked Canes 24-10, on October 28, 1989. However, the Seminoles lost to Notre Dame later that year, and Miami went on to beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl to claim their 3rd National title.

FSU led 19-3 late in the 3rd quarter. However, Miami launched on of its greatest comebacks. The canes scored three quick TD's; a 49 yard bomb to Melvin Bratton, a 26 yarder from Steve Walsh to Michael Irvin, and a 73 yard touchdown from Walsh to Irvin with 2:22 left to play.

The Rock A.K.A. Dwayne Johnson (#94), played for the Hurricanes in the early 1990s. He never gained much publicity during his career for the Hurricanes, partly due to the fact he was playing behind some player named Warren Sapp.
