Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sir Beefy played for three English counties. Which three?

Answer: Durham, Worcestershire, Somerset.

Somerset was the county where Sir Viv and Beefy met as teens. They became life long friends.
2. Master Ian took his world record 356th wicket against New Zealand. Who was the batsman?

Answer: Jeff Crowe.

Yes. A Kiwi. A bit disappointing for a statistic like this, but even us New Zealanders must bow to greatness.
3. 'Lord' Botham had his test debut in 1977 at Trentbridge. Who was the opposition?

Answer: Australia.

It took his second spell to take his first test wicket.
4. 'Viceroy' Botham received two "Beamers" from which frustrated Australian bowler during his 149 not out at Headingly in 1981?

Answer: Geoff Lawson.

You can understand one "Beamer" but not two. A "Beamer" leaves the bowler's hand and continues straight at the batsman's head. At 130kph, that's very dangerous. A "fast" bowler like Lawson, who was in the 140kph plus, must be life threating. Beefy remembered!
5. 'Captain' Ian is a left-hand batsman.

Answer: False

He did take great left-hand catches in the slips!
6. 'Prime Minister' Beefy scored how many half-centuries in one day internationals?

Answer: 9.

Just think how many more "big" innings he would have by his name if his debut was at the beginning of this millennium, given the amount of games played now compared to the eighties, and the amount of games now played against the "minnows"?
Cricket fans may smile at the idea. 21 fifties would be easy, don't you think?
7. 'Supreme Court Judge' Botham judged this wicketkeeper a "a cheating little man". Not exactly what he said;) What did Salim Yousuf do that was so bad to bring out this on-field stinging attack whilst the Beefy one was batting?

Answer: Claimed a catch that contacted the ground first?

Botham was right. Yousuf claimed it when it had clearly been seen by the umpire to pitch in front of his gloves. Same thing happened in Aussie when Greg Dyer the wicketkeeper tried the same thing. The umpire (before third umpire replays) had no choice but to give it out.

The Aussies play damn hard but are not cheats. "You're a Liar Dyer" was slapped over Aussie newspapers the next day. He lost his place in the side soon after.
8. 'President' Botham had test figures of 102 tests, 5200 runs, Highscore 208, 383 wickets, average of 28.40. What was his best bowling?

Answer: 8 for 34

Bowling against Pakistan, Lords, 1978. Which completed a win to England by an innings and 120 runs.
9. What was Champion Ian's mother's name?

Answer: Marie.

No really! It's not Brian. I promise.
10. Future ICC Chairman (I wish) Beefy was fielding when his great mate Viv Richards played his last test innings at the crease?

Answer: True

3rd test at the Oval, 1991. Viv got a standing ovation to and from the crease. Kiwimike's wife also thinks the admiration of the Beefy one in this quiz is a little over the top. Oh come on! The main thing I think is that a round of golf, catch a fish, and share a few bottles of New Zealand Chardonnay with this guy would not be a bad day out. Wife can come too:)
