8. Fitzroy won both the 'wooden spoon' AND the Premiership in the same year. True or False?

Answer: True

In 1916 five VFL clubs went into recess because of World War I. This left only Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond and Fitzroy. As the top 4 qualified for the end of season finals series, 1916 was a unique season: all of the 4 remaining clubs were assured of a semi-final berth (each club played the others home and away twice, a total of 12 regular season games). Fitzroy finished the season on the bottom of the ladder, losing their last 9 games! Never before, or since, had a team gone into the finals with nine straight losses.

They then won their three finals games to become Premiers, beating the minor premiers Carlton 85-56 in the Grand Final.
9. Which St Kilda and South Melbourne champion's name was preceded by the roar of the crowd 'Up there _______' during the game?

Answer: Cazaly

Roy Cazaly played for both of these teams from 1910 to 1927. He practiced his stab passing by kicking a ball through a hanging tyre! There was also a song written about him titled 'Up There Cazaly'.
10. Who, or what is a 'white maggot'?

Answer: Umpire

A universal term for any football umpire, especially when decisions go against your team. They are called white because that is the colour they wear.
